The Phlebotomist is responsible for the collection and preparation of blood specimens and other samples for medical testing. This role has direct contact with patients and will be accountable for presenting an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures and drawing specimens for testing. This person will work within established clinic procedures and assist the Lab Coordinator in maintaining compliance and confidentiality.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet patient and exhibit friendly and courteous behavior; explain procedure and address any patient concerns with professionalism to ensure consent with procedure.
- Demonstrate proficiency in phlebotomy skills across age groups; perform blood draws competently with minimal patient discomfort.
- Operate with knowledge of what tubes to draw, what volume is required and how to process and/or store specimens for routine test orders.
- Practice proper patient identification and container labeling before collecting sample.
- Draw and collect samples in a safe, accurate, and timely manner based on the tests ordered by the provider.
- Prepare blood specimens for submission to laboratory for testing and analysis.
- Ensure proper inventory levels and organization of supplies; order additional supplies as needed.
- Assist with patient check-ins during periods of high volume.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience collecting blood samples.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.
- Demonstrated computer skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish priorities and multi-task to maximize efficiency.
Preferred:
- Experience with eClinical electronic medical records (EMR).
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
