Description
Main Purpose
To perform any and all electrical-related job functions assigned, providing preventive maintenance and/or electrical repairs to all electrical motors and related components owned or rented by Gulf Island in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Functions
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing worn electrical cables, plugs, sockets, fuses, switches, circuit breakers, etc., and checking electrical settings on welding machines to ensure efficient operations and performance.
- Repair and overhaul electrical motors on overhead cranes and welding machines and replace applicable parts, such as armatures, brushes, wiring, etc.
- As required, run electrical lines and install electrical hookups (outlets, 220 volts, 440 volts, etc.) in the fabrication yard.
- Replace burned-out lights in office and shop areas.
- Repair electrical components in CB and two-way radios.
- Ensure that all electrical motors, machines, equipment, and application components are operating in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform other related job duties as assigned, such as reading schematics.

- Lifting - employees must lift 25 pounds and occasionally 50-75 pounds.
Job Requirements
- Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
- Must be able to pass background checks to company policy.
Desirable Experience and Training
Highschool diploma or GED.
Tools and Equipment Used
- Must have knowledge of and use hand tools associated/required to perform electrical maintenance and repair duties.
- Must also know how to use voltage and other electrical detection meters. Must be able to read and write.
Environmental Conditions
50 % of the work activities are performed outside of the electrician shop and office buildings. Individuals would be required to work in changes of temperatures, humid and dry conditions, dust, noise, and electrical engine vibrations (welding machines, etc.).
