What are the responsibilities and job description for the Carpenter position at Gulf Marine Repair?
Gulf Marine Repair is currently seeking an experienced Carpenter. The Carpenter will be responsible to cut, fabricate, install, and/or repair a variety of wood structures and furnishings in mobile homes. Offices, standard office buildings and tugboats. Must know how to install windows, joiner panels, flooring and custom trim work. Must be able to run a small team with limited supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Repair structural woodwork and replace defective parts and equipment using hand and power tools.
- Construct floors, doors and partitions using woodworking machines, hand tools and power tools.
- Transfer dimensions or measurements of wood parts or bulkhead on plywood or other material, using measuring instruments.
- Layout and align material in accordance with specifications.
- Measure and cut materials to determine conformance to specifications.
- Install permanent and temporary ladders and handrails.
- Comply with company, Federal, State, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations and policies while performing duties.
- Accountable for completion of daily work assignments.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to read a tape measure to the 32nd of an inch.
- Must be able to safely use a table saw, band saw, planer, lathe, and router.
- Must be able to properly hand doors, install floors set docks, build stairs, build temporary covers of various sizes and shapes, work in confined spaces, operate a pneumatic nail gun, listen and take instructions, receive constructive feedback and work well with others.
- Must have regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- A familiarization with nautical terms is desired.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Must have 2 plus years of experience as a Carpenter.
- Experience working within a commercial or industrial setting is preferred.
- Minor plumbing experience is a plus.
