What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipyard Pipe Foreman position at Gulf Marine Repair?
POSITION SUMMARY
As the Foreman you are responsible for overseeing the progress of work pertaining to your assigned job and crew. This includes enforcing company policies and procedures while maintaining a safe work environment, controlling production time and manpower needs, checking the quality of work being performed and reporting any changes or problems that occur on the job to the Ship Superintendent.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
- Lead and work alongside your crew to complete daily production requirements for assigned job.
- Monitor the working environment for compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and health regulations and enforce all general policies and procedures.
- Responsible for making employees accountable for the completion and accuracy of their work.
- Assist in the development of employees through educating, coaching and on the job training.
- Work with other Foreman and other Lead Men to execute daily task requirements timely and properly.
- Assist Supervisor and other Foreman with coordinating material and equipment requirements needed while on the job and plan for the following day.
- Report job status and work quality daily to the Supervisor.
- Assess manpower requirements on the job and communicate any adjustments needed to the Supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience within the ship repair industry.
- Knowledge and good understanding of USCG and ABS rules and regulations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measures, whole numbers, common fractions and decimals in US and metric conversions. Must be able to read simple blueprints and communicate the work scope to others. General computer skills (windows) a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS.
Ability to walk one mile and/or stand on your feet for 5-6 hours at a time. Capable of bending, stooping and ascending/descending stairs or ladders safety without assistance. Lift and carry objects up to 30 pounds or more without assistance. Ability to work in confined spaces as well as work above ground at heights of 50 feet or more. Must be able to climb scaffolding or ride man lifts. The incumbent must have vision and hearing that permits communication effectively in the conditions that might be encountered in a shipyard environment.
