What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Community Service Officer position at Gulf Shores, City of (AL)?
Under general supervision: Provides logistical support for departmental and city events or operations; enforces the Department of Health and City animal control regulations; picks up domestic and wild animals that are abandoned, diseased and/or dangerous which may pose a threat to public safety; Assist with traffic control at the school zone or other areas of need; empties the city parking machines and transports the revenue to the appropriate bank, also performs basic maintenance on the machines; Enforces parking regulations at city parking areas; Assist the detention staff with court security or other needs that may arise; Acts as a jailor assisting in the routine activities of the Detention Center when necessary; provides any other support of operations as may be required; Assist the Patrol Division with the handling of nonpriority calls for service which include, but not limited to, private property (non-injury) accidents, recovering of lost and found property, Close Patrols (Duty related), and non-emergency telephone desk reports.Enforces the City’s animal control ordinance; performs all duties in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations and standards of safety. Prepares and submits records and reports as required. Picks up stray and/or dangerous animals which pose a threat to public safety and/or whose owners are in violation of animal control ordinances; operates a truck, animal restraint and capture equipment, telephone, two-way radio, and routine office equipment; sets and monitors animal traps; testifies in court. Removes dead animals from roadway; relocates wildlife; transports injured animals to vet or pound; seeks summons for violations as necessary; investigates reports of animal bites; issues warning as warranted.
Assist the detention staff with court security or other needs that may arise. Acts as a jailor when necessary at the Detention Center; provides meals to prisoners; conducts routine jail inspections; assists the Magistrate in bond hearings; orders, purchases, transports, and stores food and drink for the center.
Assist patrol division with non-emergency day to day operations which include responding to and handling non-injury private property accidents, responding to found property or lost property calls, conducting limited Close Patrols which are only duty related, taking non-emergency desk reports and assisting with other various non-emergency related functions as requested.

Interacts and communicates with the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other City personnel, complainants, business/property owners, animal owners, and the general public.
Empties the city parking machines and transports the revenue to the appropriate bank, also performs basic maintenance on the machines. Enforces parking regulations at city parking areas. On call after hours and weekends for issues with parking pay machines
Maintains assigned equipment and vehicles; inspects vehicles and equipment to insure proper working order.Education and Experience:
High School Education or Equivalent; and,
One to two years of experience; or,
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Driver’s License; Qualification with certain equipment if issuedIMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs other miscellaneous tasks for the Police Department to include, but not limited to; transports items and runs in court as required.
Picks up supplies for department as needed.
Performs crossing guard duties at elementary school or other schools as needed.
Performs various requested duties related to assist the Patrol Division. (i.e. Private Property Accidents, taking reports on lost and/or found property, assisting with taking non-emergency/non-criminal related desk reports, and assist with duty related Close Patrols, other functions/duties as requested.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
