JOB TITLE: Long-Term Substitute - Pre-Kindergarten Auxiliary Aide
RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal and Pre-Kindergarten Teacher
JOB GOAL: To assist teacher in planning and implementing learning experiences for pre-kindergarten students; To assist teacher in developing a safe, healthy learning environment; To assist teacher in providing small group instruction; To assist teacher with preparation and organization of instructional materials; To encourage involvement of the families of the children in the pre-kindergarten program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Be at least 19 years of age.
- Possess and maintain a Child Development Associate Credential (DCA) or have completed at least 9 credit hours of college course work in the field of Early Childhood Education/Child Development from a regionally accredited institution.
- Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002‐457.
- Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.
- Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to develop and implement curriculum and programming specific to the needs of assigned students.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a productive team member.
- Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
- Utilizes appropriate language, interactions, and positive discipline.
- Models positive behavior.
- Assists in instructing and supervising children in classroom activities.
- Implements age-appropriate activities that support the Office of School Readiness (OSR) standards, the Gulf Shores City Schools standards and the Creative Curriculum.
- Implements and models family style eating during meal times.
- Continuously monitors children to always ensure safety.
- Reports child abuse and neglect when necessary.
- Assists the lead teacher in incorporating required activities into lesson plans that support children’s development.
- Helps lead teacher prepare activities that support lesson plans.
- Helps to maintain a clean and organized learning environment.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
- Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
- Works cooperatively and productively with teacher or supervisor(s) and other system staff to ensure the system’s vision, goals and strategies are implemented and providing all pertinent data to all appropriate personnel within the designated time frame.
- Engages in professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and effective leadership.
- Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
