JOB TITLE: Video Production Teacher (9 month – 187 days)
RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To instruct students in video production, covering both the creative and technical aspects of video creation, from pre-production to post-production. To foster students' skills in storytelling, cinematography, editing, and sound design, while encouraging the use of industry-standard tools and software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in film production, Media Arts, Communications, or a related field preferred.
- Valid Alabama teacher certificate.
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
- Posses and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Previous experience teaching video production or a related subject at the high school or college level preferred.
- Practical experience in video production, including experience with film cameras, lighting equipment, sound design, and editing software.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current curriculum and instructional practices and trends.
- Strong knowledge of industry-standard video production tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve).
- Certification in video production software (e.g., Adobe Certified Expert) preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to students with varying skill levels.
- Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, including, but not limited to, students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members.
- Physical mobility, dexterity, strength and visual acuity to perform job responsibilities. Ability to operate video production equipment, including cameras, lighting kits, and editing software. Must be able to move and set up heavy equipment as needed for classroom projects and school events.
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
- Teach video production courses, focusing on various stages such as scripting, shooting, editing, and post-production.
- Teaches students the fundamentals of Audio, Video, Technology, and Film including the applications and techniques commonly used in industry.
- Instructs students in the use of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Final Cut Pro, and other video software.
- Develop and implement a curriculum that includes hands-on projects, video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro), camera operation, lighting, sound design, and digital media.
- Provide instruction on storytelling techniques, visual composition, and the artistic elements of filmmaking.
- Demonstrates to students the proper operation and use of video production equipment.
- Guide students in producing video projects such as short films, documentaries, school news, and other multimedia content.
- Examines careers in Audio, Video, Technology, and Film and effectively guides students through industry career exploration.
- Makes industry connections for the purpose of facilitating real world experiences for students such as classroom guest speakers, job shadows, service learning, and work-based learning.
- Instructs students in the proper care and use of video production equipment.
- Organizes storage areas and controls the use of materials and equipment to prevent loss, abuse, injury, or security breech.
- Fosters student responsibility, appropriate social behavior, integrity, valuing of cultural diversity, and respect for self and others by role modeling and learning activities.
- Recognizes overt indicators of student distress or abuse and takes appropriate intervention, referral, or reporting actions.
- Participates in state-approved evaluation program as required.
- Actively supervises students during assigned duty before, during and/or after school.
- Supervises and/or assists with extracurricular and co-curricular activities as assigned.
- Serves on school/system committees, task forces, planning teams, and advisory groups as required.
- Supports school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, events, ceremonies, services and programs.
- Engages in personal professional growth, adheres to professional standards, and demonstrates professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding /student/school/workplace matters.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
- Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
- Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
- Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
- Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures; prepares for substitutes according to Board policies and school procedures
- Performs any other job‐related duties as assigned by the Principal.
