Heavy Equipment Operator
Position Summary:
Gulf Shores Landfill is actively recruiting an experienced and safety-oriented individual with an excellent work ethic to fill the position of Heavy Equipment Operator. This position is responsible for performing equipment operation duties in support of landfill construction projects.
This position requires someone with considerable knowledge in the skilled operation of heavy on and off-road equipment including bulldozers, excavators, and others. The position requires the skillful, safe, and efficient operation of heavy equipment while performing a variety of tasks.
The Heavy Equipment Operator is expected to be fully proficient in the operation and preventive maintenance of a variety of construction vehicles and equipment.
Qualified candidates must have heavy equipment experience, good communication skills, and support teamwork.
Essential Functions
This is skilled work involving operating medium and heavy-sized construction vehicles and construction equipment.

· Maneuvers heavy equipment and operates complex mechanisms involving digging, moving earth and materials, grading, and other tasks to advance projects
· Operates excavator and bulldozers to perform skilled digging and trenching for maintenance, upkeep, and construction projects, where exacting tolerances and specification are required
· Operates dozer and excavator with blade attachment to set gradients for large construction projects such as ditch construction, installing clay cap, construction of berms and terraces to manage storm water, cell construction for waste disposal, and other projects requiring exacting specifications related to slope, angle, and pitch
· Determines appropriate settings and adjusts blades for height, angle, and pitch to achieve desired outcome; and maneuvers equipment and operates mechanisms to skillfully set gradient, smooth surfaces, and spread materials
· Operates bulldozer, vibrating compactor, and other equipment to move earth, gravel, sand, and other materials for large construction projects and landfill operations, and operates mechanisms to establish rough grades or to smooth and compact surfaces in preparation for construction or other work
· Monitors immediate environment and work area to ensure the safety of operator, other workers, the equipment, and the public. Utilizes safety equipment and wears protective gear
· Inspects and prepares equipment for safe and proper operation prior to beginning work for the day; performs light maintenance on equipment, which includes changing oil, refueling, and refilling lubricants
· Prepares or completes various forms and documentation, including work orders, timecards, maintenance reports, and other documents
· Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems; and communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio
· Other duties as assigned
The starting wage for this position is $22-25 hourly. This is a fully benefited position including health, dental, and paid time off.

Minimum Qualifications:
· Sufficient education to understand and follow oral and written instructions
· Considerable experience in the operation of heavy-duty motor equipment: 10 YEARS
· Able to operate bulldozers, excavators, and other heavy equipment
· Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license
· Ability to adhere to work schedule dependably and follow through on challenges as they arise, willing to work overtime, strives to achieve all goals
· Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed in an efficient and safe manner, self-motivated and works well with others as a team or individually
· Ability to adhere to Company policies and rules set forth; promotes the Company’s safety standards; does not take inappropriate risks
· Ability to manipulate heavy equipment control levers, hear in the normal audio range with or without correction, see in the normal visual range with or without correction, and exhibit normal range of body motion
· Able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis, additional pounds with assistance
Experience: Heavy equipment operation: 10 years desired (qualified candidates may have less experience)
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule:
· Monday to Friday
· Overtime when available
· Rotating Saturday Shifts ~5 hrs once per month, overtime
Pay: From $18-30 per hour, Depending on experience (Operator I, II, III)
