What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquarist Internship position at Gulf Specimen Marine Lab?
Gulf Specimen Marine Lab and Aquarium is a nonprofit with a mission of educating the public about our oceans in order to create good stewards of our ocean ecosystems. We are a public aquarium open almost every day of the year with thousands of gallons of saltwater aquarium displays. Organisms on display include sea turtles, stingrays, sharks, octopus, a large touch tank room and more. GSML is also a marine life educational facility with thousands of guests visiting our facility for guided tours each year. For over fifty years we have functioned as a biological supply to universities and aquariums supplying live organisms for research and education purposes only. We are also one of the oldest sea turtle rehabilitation facilities in operation.
All of these areas of operations are part of the internship duties. The Aquarist internship at Gulf Specimen Marine Lab is like on-the-job training to help build your resume in the field. These positions are probably most well suited for current students or recent graduates looking to build their resume to help land the paid entry level position they are looking for in our field. We can coordinate with your university for you to get college credit through your university if you desire. Our internships are unpaid, and we do not have free housing to offer.
