What are the responsibilities and job description for the HIM Assistant position at Gulfside Healthcare Services?
Gulfside Healthcare Services is expanding our Hospice Service Line for services in Hillsborough County. We are posting this unique opportunity to come grow with Gulfside in our new Hillsborough County operations. We estimate the start date of this position to be mid-end of February with additional positions to be added as we grow. The Health Information Management Assistant is responsible for performing health information management related functions, including but not limited to, compiling and disseminating record requests, obtaining records from outside healthcare organizations, compiling and processing provider orders, and maintaining paper and electronic medical records in a manner consistent with Health Information Management industry standards and ethics.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a health related licensure or credential, e.g., C.N.A, Medical Assistant, RHIT, etc.
- Knowledgeable in medical terminology
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required
- Experience managing patient information in a medical office, home health agency, or HIM department preferred
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Compiles and fulfills release of information requests
- Obtains records from outside healthcare providers/organizations per team requests
- Assists in generating and processing physician/provider orders for signature as directed
- Protects the security of medical records to ensure that confidentiality is maintained
- Review/Audit records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations as directed by manager
- Acts as a knowledge resource for HIM and other staff related to medical records compliance and processes
- Acts as a customer service representative between GHS staff and the HIM Department
- Interacts with clinical staff to assist in facilitating the exchange of patient information pertinent to providing patient care
- Additional tasks as directed by supervisor
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, scanning and other office procedures and terminology
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly both written and verbally in the English language
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternate solutions and draw sound conclusions
- Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules.
