Position Summary:
The Banquet Captain will oversee and execute all aspects of event operations within our unique events venue, catering to a diverse range of large-scale functions including parties, receptions, and sit-down dinners for up to 800 guests. This pivotal role ensures the highest level of service throughout each event, from initial planning to successful completion. The Banquet Captain will lead a large team, including bartenders, servers, setup crew, and food runners, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment. In this Role:
- Oversee the setup, execution, and breakdown of events, ensuring each phase meets the venue's high standards and the Banquet Event Order expectations.
- Ensure that all aspects of the events run smoothly and efficiently, resolving any issues that may arise during the events.
- Lead, train, and manage a large staff, including scheduling, assigning responsibilities, and providing on-the-job training for types and styles of banquet service, to ensure superior service delivery.
- Hold a team huddle before the start of each event to cover the details noted on the Banquet Event Order, and to give station assignments and side duties.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients during events, ensuring all client requests and expectations are met.
- Provide exceptional customer service to enhance guest satisfaction and maintain the venue's prestigious reputation.
- Present the event’s check to the client and obtain approval for payment.
- Monitor the presentation and quality of food and beverages, ensuring that all products are impeccably presented and up to the standards of a AAA Four Diamond establishment.
- Monitor the setup of the whole room; tables and chairs are symmetrical, table settings, and stocking of bars and service stations, ensuring proper placement and stock.
- Manage inventory of supplies and equipment needed for events.
- Train Team Members on the proper handling and storage of all Banquet serving equipment.
- Ensure all materials are available and in excellent condition for each event.
- Enforce compliance with health, safety, and alcohol regulations.
- Train staff on emergency procedures and ensure all events comply with legal and GLC policies.
- All other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age.
- High school diploma required. Some college or college degree preferred.
- Three years of banqueting/catering service experience in a large/busy venue preferred.
- Proven experience as a Banquet Captain or similar leadership role in a high-volume, upscale events or hospitality setting.
- Strong leadership skills, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to multitask effectively during high-pressure situations.
- Must have or be able to gain ServSafe Food Safety certification and TIPS Alcohol Awareness.
- High attention to detail, exceptional customer service skills, and a professional demeanor.
- Demonstrate exceptional guest service skills, with a focus on creating memorable experiences for guests.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate various event schedules.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires normal, corrective vision range, the ability to see color, and the ability to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.
- Ability to read, write, and input data into the computer.
- Must have the manual dexterity to operate job-related equipment.
- Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs with or without assistance.
- Must have the ability to access all properties and areas.
- Ability to sit and work with a computer for a long period of time.
Work Conditions:
Work is typically in an area which may be unusually hot, cold, and/or noisy and may contain second-hand smoke. Work may be performed in a small area with a 3 ft. wide access. Tasks performed from a sitting or non-sitting position. Performance of job duties will require standing, walking, lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, and grasping. These tasks include the maintenance and care of assigned areas. Work may entail trained chemical usage. Constant contact with fellow Team Members and guests.
Work is typically in an open space glass atrium, multiple pools with sunlight exposure, and an average 80-degree temperature year-round. Work areas may be warm, cold, or noisy. Tasks may be required to be performed from a sitting or non-sitting position in a confined area. Team Members may be required to stand, walk, lift, reach, push, pull, and grasp.
