SUMMARY
The Physician diagnoses, treats and helps prevent diseases and injuries that commonly occur in Gun Lake Tribe community and its service population. The population served is diverse and includes American Indians and Alaska Natives, the employees of Gun Lake Tribe entities and eligible family members who visit the Gun Lake Tribal Health Center.
The Physician provides culturally-competent, patient-centered medical care to patients and families, serving individuals throughout their lifespan. The Physician will also serve as the Medical Director and, as such, shares in the administrative function that directly impacts medical services and collaborates with the management team in overall planning. The Physician / Medical Director assures delivery of quality services to all patients, in keeping with the philosophy, mission and goals of Gun Lake Tribe.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school in the United States
- Board Certified in clinical specialty, preferably in Family Practice
- Current State of Michigan medical license without exclusions or sanctions
- Possess waiver, certifications, and appropriate training to prescribe FDA-approved medications for the treatment of addictions including alcohol and opiates OR willingness to complete required trainings and applications within the first three months of hire
- Current DEA licensure
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following :
Demonstrates a caring and helpful attitude with patients, vendors and co-workersProvides direct medical clinical care to Gun Lake Tribe service populationPrescribes or administers treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injuryOrders, performs, and interprets tests and analyzes records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients' conditionAccurately collects, records, and maintains patient information, such as medical history, reports, or examination resultsConsistently maintains organized electronic and physical filesMaintains records in accordance with established policyMonitors patients' conditions and progress and reevaluates treatments as necessaryExplains procedures and discusses test results or prescribed treatments with patientsRefers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners as appropriate and when necessarySupervises clinical staff, including giving regular performance appraisals and constructive feedbackSupervises medical assisted treatment of addictions including alcohol and opiates, including participating in case management as a member of a multidisciplinary teamActively collaborates on integration of medical services into GLTHHS comprehensive services which include Behavorial Health, Community Health, Physical Therapy, and Pharmacy services.Advises on medical clinical equipment purchasesLeads planning for new clinical services and grantsProvides project direction and helps to carry out grant activities and prepares reports for submissionCollaborates and supervises clinical care provided by Nurse Practitioners and provides supervision for Physician AssistantsReviews patient medical charts for quality and provision of care consistent with Medical practice standardsSigns off on charts when appropriatePerforms or delegates responsibility for quarterly medical records review for all clinical staff focusing on quality of carePromotes an environment in which the medical providers retain independent judgment and responsibility in their medical practicesMaintains, reviews, and updates medical policies and procedures annually; assists to develop policies and procedures as needed to assure quality careAssists in creating medical protocol standards and ensures that providers practice to the accepted standards of careCollaborates with health service team regarding compliance, risk, quality, safety, and improvement initiativesComplies with established clinical protocols, accepted standards of care, confidentiality and privacy laws and policies and procedures of Gun Lake Tribe in performing dutiesCoordinates leave and continuing education requests with HHS Director and medical providers well in advance to ensure adequate coverage of the clinicMaintains physician licensure, board certification and DEA license in good standingOTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Has supervisory responsibility to direct daily activities of Health Practitioners and other assigned support staff.
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Tribal policies and proceduresSupervise and educate personnel to ensure compliance with Tribal policies and proceduresResponsible for the recruitment, training, evaluation, and discipline of assigned staffManages schedules to ensure adequate coverage to meet the operational needs for the clinic (may be required to perform support staff functions in the absence of designated staff)SECURITY SENSITIVE
