SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacy Manager, provide technical and administrative assistance to the Pharmacists in the daily activities of a designated pharmacy operation. Assist Pharmacist in the dispensing of prescription and non-prescription pharmaceuticals and supplies; submit and accept routine orders for pharmacy drugs and supplies.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED
- Pharmacy Technician License in state of Michigan
- Working knowledge of 340B pharmacy requirements preferred
- Previous pharmacy experience preferred
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Review prescriptions to assure 340B eligibility, accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients and to evaluate their suitability
- Provide patient counseling, information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage and proper medication storage
- Maintain records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, registries of poisons, narcotics and controlled drugs, as well as REMS documentation (i.e., Spravato)
- Follow pharmacy procedures for mixing, packaging, or labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal
- Assess the identity, strength, or purity of medications
- Collaborate with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, or evaluate the quality or effectiveness of drugs or drug regimens, providing advice on drug applications or characteristics
- Order and purchase pharmaceutical supplies, medical supplies, or drugs, maintaining stock and storing and handling it properly
- Assess inventory control reports and set up appropriate par-levels to contain inventory costs. Process returns when necessary
- Accurately process and bill patient insurances for prescriptions as well as troubleshoot insurance-related issues
- Analyze prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions in collaboration with the pharmacist on duty
- Assist patients on the selection of medication brands, medical equipment, or healthcare supplies
- Dispense medications as prescribed by doctors and dentists by calculating appropriate doses, mixing ingredients
- Helps ensure patient care and work environment demonstrate safety standards and decreases the likelihood of error or harm to patients
- Follow pharmacy policies and procedures, including those that relate to 340B regulations and compliance and audit readiness

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and be insurable
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) required or completed within three months of hire
- Occasional non-traditional hours including working evenings, weekends and holidays as required to meet program needs and deadlines
- Ability and willingness to travel for meetings and continuing education is required for this position
