The RN utilizes the nursing process and aligns practice with organizational policies, professional nursing standards and regulatory practice acts. The RN is also responsible for the direction and supervision of personnel assigned him / her.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESAssessment : Systematically and holistically assesses the patient's physiological, emotional, sociocultural, spiritual, and financial status while considering lifestyle preferences and learning needs. Planning : Collaborates with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to develop a patient-centered plan of care to promote health and optimize safety and wellness. Intervention : Provides competent and innovative patient care and education based on patient complexity, acuity, and nursing judgement within a culture of caring and safety. Documentation : Documents nursing assessment, planning, interventions, implementation, and patient / family response. Evaluation : Determines patient's progress toward achieving goal(s), and revises plan of care in collaboration with patient / family as needed. Delegation and Supervision : The RN delegates, supervises and evaluates the effectiveness of tasks performed by Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) or Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) who have the knowledge and skill to perform the task, taking into consideration the following :

frequently squat, climb stairs, bend to the floor, reach over the shoulder, kneel, twist, stretch or sit for varying periods of time during a scheduled shift of up to 12 hours.Speech : Must be able to continuously articulate clearly and precisely, with English as the basic element of speech.Emotional Stability : Must be able to continuously d3eal effectively with stress created by sick patients, multiple tasks, Moises, interruptions and work cooperatively as part of the healthcare team while maintaining a pleasant demeanor.SENSORY : Vision : Must be able to continually see objects up close so as to notice a change in the patient condition (breathing, color, skin breakdown, etc.). Ability to focus and read thermometers and other gauges and distinguish colors for warning lights.Hearing : Must be able to continuously hear normal sounds and voice patters with some background noise.Must have adequate hearing to receive verbal communication by phone and in person.Must also be able to hear audible emergency signals, alarms, and call light indicators.Smell : Must be able to detect the smell of smoke, spoiled food, soiled linen, residue of infections and appropriateness of patient body odors.COGNITIVEConcentration : Ability to concentrate on moderate details with frequent interruptions.Attention Span : Attend to a function from 10-25 minutesConceptualize : Must be able to understand and relate specific ideas and concepts.Memory : Must be able to remember multiple tasks and assignments over a period of up to 12 hours of a scheduled shift.Also, day to day assignments for continuity of care and application of procedure.Responsibilities in an Emergency : The RN is expected to respond to emergency situations involving the safety of patients, other employees and the facility.
