Summary:
The role of the Climber for Gunnison Tree Services, a Gunnison Company, is a skilled position responsible for tree maintenance, pruning and removals on residential and commercial properties using ropes, harness, saddle, and/or company equipment.
This position includes the following duties and responsibilities:
Use proper PPE
- Identifies electrical hazards
- Understand Tree ID and wood characteristics
- Understand CODIT and reaction wood
- Conducts pre-climb inspections
- Regularly inspect climbing equipment
- Tie advanced climbing knots
- Be Proficient with throwline and ropes
- Use second tie-in when cutting
- Uses climbing spurs
- Perform basic rigging
- Understand rigging loads
- Proper use of rigging equipment
- Uses command and response
- Understands support system design
- Be able to perform aerial rescue (annual training will be provided)
- Understand proper pruning theory and proper cut technique
- Train others in safe techniques
In addition to the duties listed above, a climber is expected to be able to and assist with the duties
of a Ground Operation Specialist
of a Ground Operation Specialist
These duties include but are not limited to:
- Keeping the work area clear of debris, cleaning up limbs near utility lines.
- Tree climbing, trimming, pruning & and operating equipment (chainsaws, chippers, hand tools)
- Raking the area clear to maintain the safety zone.
- Lining up branches and piling appropriately for loading into the chipper.
- Keeping tools in the staging area and safe zone.
- Assuring that all lines are kept clear at all times.
- Being attentive to the crew leader’s cues throughout the job and maintaining awareness of
- Operating heavy equipment such as a skid steer.
- Tying knots and operating rigging equipment.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Exhibits good judgement in safety.
