Position Title: Bus Aide
Location: District - System-wide
Pay Type: Salary - Non-Exempt
Contract Work Year: 9 Months/182 Days
Reports To: Transportation Supervisor
Qualifications:
- Holds a high school diploma or GED equivalent,
- Fingerprinting/background clearance, random drug testing,
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor of Transportation, monitors students’ behavior and assists the school bus driver to maintain appropriate student behavior on school buses transporting students to and from school.
DUTIES:
- Ensure students do remain seated while the bus is in motion.
- Prevent students from fighting, being verbally abusive or self-abusive, or behaving in ways that could create disorder on the bus or threaten safety of passengers.
- Assist students from bus to school and school to bus, as needed.
- Work with teachers and parents in implementing behavior management techniques to reduce inappropriate behaviors on the school bus.
- Minimize bus bullying.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Relate well to students and adults
- Display empathy and understanding of special needs students
- Willingness and ability to physically restrain students if needed
- An ability to be consistent, assertive, and fair in dealing with students
- In good health both mentally and physically
- Training and experience
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- CDL preferred but not required
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provision of the Board’s policy manual, Fair Dismissal Act of Alabama, and the Board’s Salary Schedule.
EVALUATION:
Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of support personnel.
