Overview Of Role
This role, reporting to the Global Head of Market Risk, will work as part of an analytics team covering all traded commodities including Oil (Physical and Financial), Gas, Power, Metals, Derivatives and Agricultural, etc as well as financial products. The role will include building and maintaining crucial relationships with the front office ensure that potential losses to the Group due to changes in market conditions are within the admissible limits.
The North America Regional Head of Market Risk is a strategic professional who stays abreast of developments within his/her own field and contributes to directional strategy by considering their application in own job and the business. He/she is recognized as technical authority with the business for the commodity area under cover. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers, especially when delivering complex projects.
Specifically, the North America Regional Head of Market Risk will be in charge of the daily oversight of market risk for selected Commodities trading desks, covering both financial and physical trading activity, including monitoring and analysing the exposure on a day-to-day basis, including legal entity, as well as performing independently analysis of large and complex trading structures. The candidate will also be in charge of medium length projects for the Global Risk team, as well as any other key cross-asset initiatives across the Market Risk function at Gunvor.

Main Responsibilities
- Assist the Global Head of Market Risk to foster a culture of market & quantitative risk management within Gunvor Group, across all commodities spaces (physical oil & products, physical gas & power, futures & options, complex derivatives etc) and across our major trading hubs.
- Support the Global Head of Market Risk to provide positions and embedded risks’ analysis, provide risk advisory service to desks, review pricing and risk models, monitor trading activity to ensure adequation with risk limits, identify inefficiencies, recommend corrective actions etc.
- Evaluate option implied volatilities and other Greeks to identify inherent risks and advise on optimal option hedging strategies.
- Improve existing analysis on basis hedge strategies.
- Model cross products/ relative value strategies.
- Communicate regularly to larger risk team on market and positions risks update.
- Report and discuss with the Global Head of Market Risk regularly on market updates in order to refine market analysis.
- Support Front Office in new business activities by evaluating risks embedded in new business or complex transactions.
- Deliver projects to improve accuracy of Market Risk Analytics, such as the testing and advancement of new Risk metrics (not limited to VaR) framework, enhanced stress testing as well as concentration risk monitoring.
- Works with trading desk to ensure that all relevant market risk factors are properly identified and formally captured in official risk systems.
- Oversees the roll out of new upgraded risk reports into relevant technology, to facilitate better risk oversight for both Market Risk as well as Front Office.
- Monitors business compliance with the firm’s market risk-related policies.
- Strong quantitative skills, in particular deep understanding of quantitative modelling techniques, with practical experience in market risk. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail, translating complex matters into simple and concise terms for senior management.
- Proven ability to effectively manage and motivate multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment with proven ability regarding coaching, development and performance management.
- Experience and affinity with the agile way of working.
- Experience in managing both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability and appetite to drive business development and contribute to the growth of Gunvor’s solutions; proven ability to challenge the status quo.
