Main Responsibilities
- Recruits, directs, develops, and coaches a large regional team of Risk Officers to ensure that the necessary resources are in place to effectively support the objectives of Management for the Risk function.
- In coordination with the Global Head of Risk Office – Oil & Products/Derivatives, develops Risk policies and procedures. Regionally ensures that such policies and procedures are updated as required, are understood by Risk Officers and that instances of non-compliance are identified, escalated, and resolved as necessary.
- Monitors regionally trading activity to ensure it is in line or developing within the parameters set by Management and recommends corrective actions.
- Responsible for the regional management reporting and accuracy of the P&L.
- Apply and conducts quantitative and qualitative analysis of the market and portfolios to provide value adding decision support.
- Reviews new trading strategies and/or structured transactions, to ensure the position & PnL can be accurately modelled and reported in the ETRM
- Identifies and proposes tools and processes required to measure monitor and control risk in line with any parameters set by Risk Management.
- Identify and implement enhancements to risk metrics and system.
- Identify and investigate issues of non-compliance with limits within the business units, flag issues of non-compliance to the Global Head of Risk Office
- Accountable for relevant project management assigned including but not limited to planning and allocating resources, preparing budgets, monitoring progress, setting quality and performance standards, assessing risks and keeping stakeholders informed throughout the project lifecycle.
- Represents Risk-department in either project governance meetings and/or other committee, as the case may be, such as credit, IT steerco, system development
- Provides assistance to other offices of the Group on Risk, IT & other relevant topics, as the case may be.
- Advises business unit and support groups on workflow and data process flows.
- Establish productive partnerships focused on risk with business units.
- Supports the Head of Market & Quantitative Risk department
- Develops and maintains good relationships with external service providers and peers.
- Stands as the first point of contact of IT for all risk related projects and developments
- Provides leadership skills, advice, and assistance to IT in maintain the system(s).
- Assessment and advisory services on system development and procurement.
- Keep up to date on risk and risk technology developments.
- Liaise with quant team to review pricing and risk models.
- Approve change requests to the trading system.
- Approve/facilitate access and set exchanges limits for the traders/business. Manage user access rights for Reuters, Ice, Argus, Platts or similar.
- Approve new products traded.
- Assist Compliance group and regulatory initiatives and reporting.
- Assist Accounting group in monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliation.
- Assist internal and external auditors.
- Aid external auditors to better understand valuation methodologies.
- Liaise with operation groups to identify operational Risk issues and implement risk mitigating initiatives.
- University degree, preferably in Computing, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics or Finance.
- A total of 10 years relevant experience or in a similar role in the commodity trading business, preferably within a major trading house, an oil major, investment bank or hedge fund.
- Strong and effective leadership with track record, entrepreneurial spirit, naturally curious and proactive.
- Demonstrate and inspire integrity and professionalism.
- Can do attitude / driven, self-motivated and goal orientated.
- Team player; able to build relationships across the company and regions
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Strong verbal and written communicator.
- Fluent in English, any other language is a plus.
