DESCRIPTION
Under the direction and supervision of the Youth Recreation Supervisor, the bus driver is responsible for safely transporting children and staff to and from field trip locations. The Gurnee Park District Bus Driver is a Seasonal/Part-Time Position. Destinations include, but are not limited to locations in the Chicagoland area distancing up to fifty or more miles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Transporting school aged and preschool children to and from their camp/school, field trip locations and to special activities
- Responsible for the safety of children and staff on the bus
- Instruct staff and participants to maintain safe practices during transportation
- Assist staff during field trips if needed
- Fuel vehicles and maintain general cleanliness
- Perform daily vehicle checks
- Work with other staff members as a team
- Act as a role model for young children
- Provide customer service and friendliness to all participants and parents
- Follow, promote and help implement the Gurnee Park District Customer Service Standards (SOFFI) attached.
- Report any problems to the Youth Recreation Supervisor
- Communicate information as needed, to staff members and patrons
- Maintain an approachable appearance and be friendly to participants and parents
- Arrive on time as scheduled and dressed appropriately for work
- Uphold all Park District and camp policies set forth in the Part-Time Manual
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Youth Recreation Supervisor with duties, as needed
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: Individuals 21 years or older who have experience driving a bus
- Education: Defensive Driving Skills, Commercial Drivers Licenses (CDL)
- Skills: Must have a current, valid Illinois drivers license and an excellent driving record. Must be currently employed with Woodland School District 50, Gurnee School District 56 or 121
- Certifications: Valid Drivers License, Valid CDL License
- Competencies: This position must possess a thorough knowledge of safety while transporting children and staff to and from field trips.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands of this position are minimal. Most of your job will be
at asitting while driving a bus. In case of an emergency you may need to assist children out of the bus by lifting, carrying, bending, catching them out of the emergency exits. Some bending, twisting, and kneeling may be necessary.
Salary : $24 - $26
