ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF REHABILITATION

Gurwin Healthcare System is a full continuum of care providing extraordinary care and caring to the people that we serve. Set on a 36-acre campus in Commack, NY. The Gurwin Healthcare System includes the 460-bed Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, providing short-term rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care, memory care, respiratory and ventilator care, palliative and hospice care, social and medical adult day programs, and on-site dialysis. Sharing the campus is Gurwin’s Assisted Living community (Gurwin Jewish ~ Fay J. Lindner Residences), our Independent Living community (Fountaingate Gardens) and our Certified and Licensed Home Care Service Agencies.

Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is currently seeking a full time Assistant Director of Rehabiliation who will embody the passion and commitment required to deliver the ultimate care for our residents.

Requirements Include:

• B.S. from an approved school of Physical Therapy, Masters Degree preferred
• Minimum of 3 years of Physical Therapy experience, plus one year geriatric related experience preferred.
• New York State License or eligibility and current certification.

Job Duties Include:

• Performs screens, evaluations and treatments under physician order.
• Maintains appropriate record keeping in accordance with facility and regulatory guidelines.
• Acts in the role of Center Coordinator of Clinical Education, liaison between the facility and affiliating institutions.
• Acts as Clinical Instructor, providing education and supervision to PT and PTA students.
• Responsible for the direct supervision of the daily operations of the Rehab Department, including but not limited to scheduling of residents and staff.
• Actively participates in the departmental Performance Improvement Program.
• Assists in the planning and development or revision of programs within the Rehabilitation Department.
• Assists in the revision of clinical and administrative policies and procedures.
• Assists in departmental budget planning and implementation.
• Researches and recommends equipment for purchase.
• Assists in the planning of the Inter/Intradepartmental In-service Education Program.
• Remains abreast of current trends through reading, research and/or participation in continuing education programming.
• Is knowledgeable of and maintains departmental compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements.
• Provides input for staff evaluations.
• Employee actively shares knowledge, fosters and promotes dissemination of information as it relates to organizational needs.
• Maintains confidentiality in same.
• Performs Duties in a safe manner.
• Has taken an active role in the prevention of employee incidents and accidents so that the number of incidents and accidents in area of responsibility has decreased. Makes recommendations to improve safety.
• Demonstrates an attitude of cooperation and professionalism when dealing with peers and supervisors.
• Performs other related duties as requested by the Director of Rehabilitation.
• Appropriately responds to call bells.
• Assists in the transportation of residents as appropriate.
• Adheres to all aspects of Customer Service, some examples include the following: working together, showing empathy, courteous communication,respect of others.
