Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time, one-year position of Visiting Instructor (or Assistant Professor with appropriate qualifications) in the Department of Health and Exercise Science to begin August 15, 2025. The department anticipates a continued vacancy, and the successful candidate may be considered for continuation for two additional years, contingent upon favorable review and the continuing needs of the College.
Applicants must have current authorization to work in the United States. Gustavus will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.

Prerequisites
What’s Required
- MA or MS in Physical Education, Health Education, Sport Pedagogy, or Kinesiology related discipline (PhD or EdD preferred)
- Experience as the teacher of record in a K-12 health and/or physical education classroom for a minimum of three years
- Previous youth, adolescent, or adult coaching experience
- Evidence of effectiveness in teaching
- Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate students
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and identities
- Previous experience teaching health and physical education pedagogy courses at the college or university level
- Experience as a head or assistant coach at the middle, high school, or collegiate level for a minimum of three years
- Other certifications in DAPE, coaching, strength and conditioning, or Kinesiology related disciplines
- Teach 7 course equivalents over the academic year. Typically, 3 in the Fall and 4 in the Spring. Two of the sections in Fall and/or Spring may be the same course. Primary teaching responsibilities will include Secondary Health and Physical Education Methods, Adapted Physical Education and Sport, Foundations of Sport and Coaching, Motor Learning and Development, and potentially Biomechanics or other Kinesiology related courses.

- Improve your teaching by joining a teaching circle, participating in workshops, applying for an internal teaching development grant, and engaging in conversations about teaching with colleagues across campus.
- Advance your scholarship by working with undergraduate research assistants, joining a writing retreat, applying for an internal grant, receiving travel funds to present at conferences, receiving help applying for external grants, and making use of our research facilities.
- Develop professional skills by participating in faculty meetings and committees, attending faculty development days, and taking advantage of the College’s membership to the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD).
