This role involves gathering and analyzing user requests, understanding business needs

and translating them into actionable reports and dashboards. The BI Developer will leverage data visualization, SQL queries, and analytics to solve problems and provide valuable insights to stakeholders.


The BI Developer is a member of our Business Intelligence team and is responsible for

developing, maintaining, and enhancing SSRS and Tableau reports to support data-driven

decision-making. 


Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning 

 

1. Design, develop, maintain and optimize SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports.

2. Extract, Transform, Load and Analyze data using Python, R, SQL, Alteryx, Power Query or other equivalent tools. 

3. Monitor report performance, identify bottlenecks, optimize queries to maintain fast response times for large datasets, and ensure data accuracy and integrity.  

4. Deploy reports to production environments, manage user access, and provide ongoing support for report updates, troubleshooting and users’ requests.  

5. Build interactive dashboards and reports in SSRS, Tableau, PowerBI or other equivalent tools to visualize key business metrics. 

6. Document all the user requests, changes, and technical processes for all the projects assigned.  

7. Automate data and reporting processes to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency.  

 


Data Analytics & Insights  

 

1. Analyze trends, patterns, and anomalies in data to uncover business insights. 

2. Interpret business requirements and translate them into effective reporting solutions.  

3. Provide recommendations based on data analysis to improve operational and strategic decisions. 

4. Work with large datasets to create meaningful reports that highlight key performance indicators (KPIs). 



Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: 

 

1. Partner with IT, Finance, Accounting, Sales, HR, Procurement and Operations teams to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and efficiency. 

2. Identify opportunities for improving reporting processes and implementing best practices. 

3. Maintain documentation for report development, data sources, and business rules. 

4. Train end users on how to interpret and utilize reports effectively. 

5. Excellent communication skills to work effectively with stakeholders across all levels of the organization, adapting communication to diverse audiences, including executives, business users, and technical teams, with varying levels of experience, expertise, and backgrounds.  

 

Qualifications

Knowledge & Experience 

 

1. Experience in the manufacturing industry and Hardwood Lumber industry is a plus.  

2. 2 years of hands-on experience in SQL with Microsoft SQL Server and SSRS development in Report Builder. 

3. Knowledge with various data mart, data warehouse data models, SSAS Cubes preferred.  

4. Familiarity with the Epicor Lumber Track ERP system preferred.   

5. Proficient with working in Microsoft based software environments. 

6. Contribute to the future design and maintenance of the data mart schema, knowledge of dimensional modeling concepts and data mart design principles, ensuring data integrity and efficiency are preferred.

Education and Certification:  

Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in computer science, data analytics, information systems, Business Intelligence, or related fields is a plus. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
