Position Summary:
The community doula will provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to individuals and families during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.
Education, License, & Cert:
Certification as a Doula (CAPPA, DONA, or equivalent).
Experience:
Experience in community outreach or public health. Background in nursing, social work, or related fields preferred. Familiarity with local resources and services for families. Valid driver’s license as travel is required. Experience working with diverse populations, particularly in underserved communities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of maternal and infant health issues, including breastfeeding and postpartum recovery. Bilingual skills are a plus.
Essential Functions:
Support Services:
- Provide prenatal, labor, and postpartum support to families.
- Offer emotional support and encouragement throughout the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period.
- Assist with the creation of birth plans and educate families on their options and rights.
- Offer reassurance, encouragement, and comfort to help reduce anxiety and fear.
- Utilizing techniques such as massage, breathing exercises, and positioning to help alleviate discomfort during labor.
- Support physical and emotional health of both the birthing person and their family, fostering a positive birth experience.
Education and Advocacy:
- Conduct workshops and classes on childbirth education, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
- Advocate for the needs and preferences of families during labor and delivery.
- Facilitate connections to community resources, including healthcare providers, nutritionists, and mental health services.
- Supporting clients in communicating their needs and preferences to healthcare providers, ensuring their voices are heard.
- Sharing knowledge about the birthing process, options for labor and delivery, and postpartum care to help families make informed decisions.
Cultural Competency:
- Respect and honor diverse cultural practices and beliefs surrounding pregnancy and birth.
- Engage in continuous education about the cultural needs of the community served.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and support provided.
- Report any concerns regarding client health or safety to the appropriate authorities.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with healthcare providers, social workers, and other doulas to ensure comprehensive care.
- Participate in regular team meetings and training sessions.

Pay Range: $20.44-$32.39 per hour
