Position Summary : 3rd Shift Position
Responsible for the Power Plant Complex daily function and operation, ensuring safe and efficient operation of all mechanical / electrical systems including but not limited to; High Pressure Steam Boilers, Chillers (Steam Turbine & Electrical Centrifugal), Cooling Towers, Condenser and Chilled Water Pumps, Reciprocating Engine, Waste Heat Recovery System, Chemical Treatment Systems, Emergency Generators and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).
Directly responsible for steam generation and distribution, chilled water generation and distribution and all piping, pumps, valves, switches, steam traps, pressure regulators, etc. making up and contributing to these systems.
Reports regularly as requested to the Plant Operations Supervisor the condition of the Power Plant equipment systems & environment and the status of regulatory compliance requirements.
Monitors the status of the emergency power generation and distribution systems.
Education, License & Cert :
High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Licenses : A valid driver’s license is required.
During orientation period, employee maybe required to participate in a "Powered industrial truck operators" course (#78‐199 published by NIOSH) and is able to interpret and exercise all information and rules set forth in the regulations. This must be renewed by incumbent annually
Experience : Three (3) years of trade school or five (5) years’ comparable related experience.
Minimum of five years’ experience as high‐pressure boiler operator in a hospital or industrial plant.
Essential Functions :
Monitors alarms on the Power Plant systems and equipment. Performs maintenance and repairs on Power Plant systems as needed to ensure maximum reliability of services to all areas of the hospital.
Works with the Plant Operation / CHP Specialist, Electrician / CHP Specialist and 3rd party Energy Provider to optimize Combined Heat and Power (CHP) performance and the timing of scheduled PMs.
Responsible to perform testing and maintain current records at required intervals to maintain licensure, certification, operating permits as required by TJC, DOH and DEP.
Participates in certification exercises, shop meetings and other activities required to gain information and instructions that will keep the Power Plant operating effectively and
Responsible for the maintenance, testing, upkeep and cleanliness of the equipment and equipment support systems to maintain a clean safe working environment.
Maintain all usage logs for fuel, water and steam equipment per Maintenance and regulatory requirements to include Plume monitoring and documentation.
Monitor use and levels for fuel and oxygen to include but not limited to fuel oil tanks for boilers and generator. Monitors and maintains all required chemical levels for steam, tower water, soft water systems.
Coordinate all outside vendor / agencies for servicing to maintain operational efficiency at the highest level.
Assist in developing the capital equipment budget for cost center 831 and demonstrates cost effectiveness by : proper use and care of equipment; appropriate and prudent use of supplies; accurately recording labor and supply charges and appropriately utilizing available resources.
Must have advanced knowledge of all applicable OSHA standards, ., Right‐to‐Know, Lock‐out Tag‐out, ladder safety, and other standards required.
Other Duties :
Responds to emergencies in the facility, makes emergency repairs as needed and is part of weekend / holiday rotation to provide 24 / 7 coverage of the Power Plant and Hospital.
Assists in removing snow from facilities grounds and maintains grounds as required.
Provide assistance and coordination to others having worked in the Power Plant and assists with department‐wide projects and / or responsibilities.
