Day to day as a Respiratory Therapist -- PRN
As a PRN Respiratory Therapist at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital & Clinics, you will be instrumental in establishing and maintaining respiratory care equipment, ensuring a safe and clean care environment for all patients. Your role will involve performing routine therapy with a solid understanding of current respiratory theory, principles of care, and procedures. You will engage in critical tasks such as cardiac and pulmonary rehab intake, individualized treatment plan (ITP) development, and daily patient care. Additionally, you will conduct stress testing, including treadmill and nuclear medicine assessments, while actively participating in quality improvement initiatives. Your contributions will enhance department operations and communications, reflecting the mission and objectives of GMHC.
Accountability for knowledge, awareness, and practices related to GMHC's quality initiatives, behavioral standards, and corporate compliance program will be essential in delivering excellence in patient care.

To thrive as a PRN Respiratory Therapist at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital & Clinics, candidates must hold an Associate's degree from an accredited school for respiratory care and maintain a current RRT credential with the NBRC, alongside a valid license from the Iowa Board of Respiratory Care. Ideal candidates will possess certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP, coupled with robust clinical knowledge to deliver high-quality respiratory care. Proficiency in personal computers, printers, and Microsoft Office applications is essential, as is familiarity with the EMR EPIC platform and insurance authorizations.
Strong customer service skills, including effective communication and interpersonal abilities, are critical for interacting with patients and team members. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills, showcasing their ability to multitask in a fast-paced, professional environment while being courteous, articulate, and reliable in all professional interactions.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
- Associates degree from an accredited school for respiratory care or higher.
- Must maintain current RRT credential with the NBRC and valid license with the Iowa Board of Respiratory Care. Ideal candidate would have BLS, ACLS, PALS and NRP certification.
- Must have clinical knowledge necessarily to competently perform quality respiratory care. Proficiency in operation of personal computers printers, fax, internet, telephone and email programs as well as Microsoft Office applications. Must demonstrate strong customer service skills including good communication and interpersonal skills Must have good organizational and time management skills. This individual will be courteous, articulate, and reliable. Must be able to multi-task in a fast paced professional environment
- Previous secretary or clerical experience in healthcare with knowledge of medical terminology
- EMR EPIC platform and insurance authorizations.
