Utility Relocation Coordinator
Responsible for coordinating, managing, and communicating the utility relocation efforts for GUY civil engineering projects and contracted services from external clients. Monitors, participates, and coordinates the utility phase of project design, pre-construction, and construction activities. Prepares proposals, holds field meetings, reviews plans to identify technical issues, provides resolutions, edits preliminary and final utility relocation plans, coordinates issuance of the utility relocation “Notices to Proceed” and monitors utility relocation progress.
Key duties/responsibilities
- Represents GUY Engineering to external clients
- Coordinate and lead meetings involving municipalities, public utility companies, and ODOT or county personnel.
- Manages conflict and determines resolution to advance work and maintain a professional client relationship.
- Read, understand, interpret, and communicate the detailed elements of highway construction & right-of-way plans.
- Coordinate with engineers to ensure that there is adequate right-of-way necessary to relocate utilities.
- Identify existing utility facilities in the field and interpret utility owner’s atlas sheets.
- Inspect survey data to ensure that all utilities have been properly located by the surveyors.
- Generate professional, detailed reports (field meeting reports), and correspondence.
- Address, submit in writing, and follow-up on any changes to the construction and/or right-of-way plans that affect the relocation of utilities. Research problems and coordinate solutions.
- Update engineers on their projects, as needed, with a detailed relocation status of each utility.
- Document all project contacts, milestones, status, and utility relocation plans.
- Utilize the ODOT and Cherokee Nation procedures when applicable.
- Coordinate the relocation of utilities for state, county, city highway and roadway projects.
- Research, understand, and incorporate state statutes governing the relocation of utilities with 69 O.S. 2006 § 1205, 1401, 1402, 1403; ODOT Right-of-Way, Utilities Division policies, Utility Relocation Agreements, and Utility Permits.
- Prepare, review, and evaluate utility relocation proposals, plans, cost estimates and split cost instances.
- Monitor relocation efforts and maintain as-built drawings of relocated facilities.
- Manage projects via the terms of the contract & scope, requesting supplemental agreements as needed.
- Acquires and applies an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
- All other duties as assigned.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in civil, roadway, or bridge project understanding.
- Excellent PC skills (Word/Excel/Outlook), communication and organizational skills are required.
- A working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is strongly desired.
- The ability to use the Internet as a research tool.
