What We Are Looking For
GVEC is looking to hire you for the position of System Administrator to deliver the unexpected with a willingness to continuously develop yourself, your department, and our organization. As a System Administrator, you will help manage and maintain our IT infrastructure. You will provide problem analysis, project planning and coordination, application support, vendor management, and internal customer support to ensure the stability and efficiency of our IT operations. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is committed to continuous learning and contributing to the growth of our department and organization.
Your Pay
The pay range for this role is between $85,000 - $106,000 per year and will be commensurate based on your skills, qualifications and experience. In addition, GVEC ties cash bonuses to a multitude of organizational benchmarks set forth annually.
How You’ll Help
- Plan, design, install, configure, upgrade and migrate systems in Windows and Linux environments
- Monitor database operations and take corrective actions to ensure maximum availability and performance
- Design and implement disaster recovery procedures to meet approved recovery time objectives
- Support and maintain Windows Server (2016–2025) and Linux (Ubuntu, Red Hat, Debian, SUSE, CentOS) servers, both physical and virtual
- Maintain various databases including Microsoft SQL, MySQL and MariaDB Clusters
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell
- Assist in developing standards, policies and procedures to ensure system integrity
- Manage assigned projects from planning to execution
- Perform scheduled maintenance outside regular hours
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical system support
- Share technical expertise through cross-training with team members
- Assist with Level 2 Helpdesk support as needed
- Support various projects and additional duties as assigned
- Create and maintain technical documentation and disaster recovery procedures for assigned systems
Experience/Skills You’ll Need
- WordPress Web hosting environments including development, site management and backups
- Linux System Administration
- SQL Experience, backups, monitoring, performance management
- Advanced knowledge of Windows Server installation, maintenance and troubleshooting
- Moderate PowerShell scripting skills
- Knowledge of basic networking including Layer 3 connectivity and port level security to work with the security team to harden assigned systems
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies, preferably VMWare
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and confidently
- Excellent problem-solving skills; able to effectively troubleshoot issues independently
- Demonstrated ability to effectively evaluate and manage conflicting priorities
- Self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic - able to work independently with an impeccable sense of honesty and integrity
- Team player with the resolve to provide and take constructive criticism that helps evolve the team
Preferred Experience/Skills
- Experience in maintaining Linux, Windows, and Azure environments
- 2 years of Windows/Linux System Administration
- Proficient in SQL DR strategies including Availability Groups, Mirroring, Log Shipping and maintenance plans
- Azure/Cloud data management experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or relevant area
