The purpose of a DHG faculty member is to assist students to acquire knowledge, psychomotor skills and affective skills necessary for taking national and state board exams and performing dental hygiene tasks as allowed by the state of South Carolina. Primary responsibilities will include classroom/laboratory instructions and evaluations, clinical supervision, evaluation, and participation in curriculum development. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Instructional Development: Participate in the selection, development, and revision of individual course materials (syllabi, objectives, evaluation methods, tests, audio-visuals, computer software, etc) and overall program curriculum for department. Be organized, well prepared for class. Schedule class, lab, and clinical time effectively.
Teaching Performance: Be prepared to teach any assigned course in the curriculum by employing appropriate teaching strategies relating coursework requirements to published objectives and demonstrating effective interaction skills with students. Maintain positive student and supervisor evaluations. Pace instruction over the term providing timely tests, test results and following department and college grading policies. Provide tutoring for students as needed including developing prescriptive methods to increase success and retention.
Instructional Management: Maintain and manage an appropriate learning environment in class, lab, and clinical. Maintain accurate records and submit reports in a timely manner. Provide disciplinary action where appropriate using program policies.
Student Advisement: Provide academic advising for a caseload of students according to college and departmental policy as it relates to students' needs and problems, including maintenance of records and appropriate referral. Maintain and publicize required office hours and communicate and/or meet with students in a timely manner while displaying sensitivity to students' needs and problems.
College and Community Service: Participate in college, school, and departmental recruiting activities and assist with job placements for students. Display a positive attitude toward the college, school, department, other instructional areas, and college support services. Accept accountability for preparing graduates to pass the licensure exams. Provide appropriate administrative reports, report safety hazards, and effectively serve on department, school, college, and/or community committees, attending meetings appropriately.
Professional Development: Develop an annual professional development plan in conjunction with supervisor. Attend courses, seminars, and workshops as required or planned.
Other duties as assigned.
This position is dependent upon approval from the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA) for the Greenville Technical College Dental Hygiene Department to increase student enrollment from 24 students to 28 students for the Fall of 2025. Request for the enrollment increase is set to occur in March 2025.
