What are the responsibilities and job description for the Network Architect position at GVTC?
Summary:
Responsible for architecting current and future enterprise voice, data, and video network systems. Provide the highest level of problem resolution. This position researches and recommends solutions that will result in secure and reliable networks. This position will integrate new products with existing network and back-office systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Help analyze, develop, and engineer an assigned product from conceptual stages through product implementation to meet corporate growth objectives.
- Collaborate with a wide variety of functional areas such as sales, marketing, engineering, product management, customer service, operations, and accounting to help develop, engineer, and provide products that are responsive to customer needs and market opportunities.
- Support new product development to ensure product profitability meets corporate objectives that align with strategic objectives.
· Serves as technical lead for carrier products and technical consultant for enterprise products and solutions.
- Provide technical expertise and support for complementary third-party products to broaden company product line and meet corporate growth objectives.
- Provide support and training to sales and marketing department through customer site visits.
- Provide product documentation and information to assist in the creation of product training material for the organization and participate in training as appropriate.
· Assist in the preparation of RFP's, designing cost-effective solutions plus solving configuration challenges through the standard or Individual Case Basis (ICB) process
· Oversee and execute planned network maintenance work, minimizing impact to services
· Manage network capacity in cooperation with the Network Operations Center (NOC). Handle escalated trouble calls and work closely with the NOC, field technicians, and telecommunications carriers to resolve service issues
- Assist with Switching related projects when necessary.
- Assist with Transmission related projects when necessary.
- Assist with IP related projects when necessary.
- Assist with video related projects when necessary.
- Assist with weekly, monthly, bi-annual, and annual reports when necessary.

- Requires Strong technical background
- Ability to think both strategically and tactically with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical skills and proven ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data, draw conclusions, and develop actionable recommendations.
- Proficiency with MS Excel. Experience with MS Access is a plus.
- Understands and can implement Voice and VoIP networks. Metaswitch knowledge preferred.
- Understands and can implement video systems which include digital content multiplexers, receivers, VOD, SDV, conditional access, QAM’s, multicast distribution, and back-office systems.
- Understands and can implement FTTH (PON, XGS-PON, NG-PON2) distribution networks
- Understands and can implement DWDM (10,100,500Gig) transmission networks.
- Understands and can implement ADSL, VDSL, and g.FAST copper distribution networks.
- Understands and can implement IP (1,10,100G) transport and distribution networks. MPLS knowledge preferred.
- Understands and can implement Carrier Ethernet transport networks.
· Understands LAN and WAN connection requirements.
- Working knowledge of multiple operating systems such as UNIX, Linux, and Microsoft platforms.
- Ability to manage complex projects and work cross-functionally within the organization.
- Work independently in a dynamic environment, consistently achieving key milestones.
- Manage and deliver against several initiatives simultaneously in fast-paced dynamic environment.
- Make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact at all levels of organization.
- Proficiency with Project Management and PowerPoint. Strong presentation skills.

Education/Experience:High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. Bachelor Degree preferred. Minimum of five years’ experience in Network Operations or Engineering.
Language Ability: Ability to read, write and comprehend complex instructions and both short and long correspondence.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to deal with and solve problems using solid judgment skills.

Pay: $95,446.00 - $135,000.00 per year
