Position Specific Summary
The Community Engagement Advisor will serve as a student staff member within the Division of Student Affairs. The department of Campus Living and Residential Education(CLRE) houses the on campus student population in which living and learning take place on a daily basis. We strive to foster inclusive residential environments where students have opportunities to grow and develop into leaders, value civility and respect, and thrive as members of the GW community. The Community Engagement Advisor works within CLRE and is responsible for actively engaging residential students around relationship- and community-building; and serve as peer support for roommate / student conflict. The Community Engagement Advisor will be required to reside in one of our first-year residence halls. This position is for Academic Year 2025-2026. Students interested in applying must be an undergraduate student returning to GW in Fall 2025.
Standard Position Description
Residential Community Engagement Advisors (CEAds) provide essential programming and community-building support to first-year residential students to help them feel a strong sense of belonging to the George Washington University community. In this position, CEAds can expect to create opportunities for engagement and relationship development for students in their assigned residence hall. CEAds will have the ability to develop these opportunities through the below methods in partnership with Community Coordinators :
- Living in an assigned first-year residence hall to build positive relationships with residents, fellow CEAds, and other CLRE team members.
- Developing programs, events, and other learning strategies in accordance with the Rev Up@Home outcomes-based learning strategy, helping build interpersonal connections among residents.
- Facilitating Rev Chats (intentional conversations) with residents throughout the academic year.
- Regularly identify opportunities for residents to come together and take action on those opportunities which can include, but are not limited to : bringing residents to student organization meetings, events, and sporting events on campus, helping organize intramural teams, bringing residents on excursions around Washington, DC.
- Assisting residents with getting connected to the necessary on and / or off-campus resources as needed.

Required Qualifications
Rising Second-year student or higher.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with resources on- and off-campus, conflict resolution / mediation, event planning / facilitation, group dynamics, community-building and working in a team with other students and with a supervisor.
