GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
The Teacher plans, designs, implements, and assesses an appropriate instructional program in a high school environment that guides and encourages a diverse group of students at all levels to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The Teacher designs the learning experience, monitors student progress and presents the information to parents, develops assessments, creates and reinforces classroom expectations, works with school administration to prepare students for a variety of assessments, and manages and supports students outside the classroom, such as in school hallways, field trips, after school activities, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Demonstrates knowledge of the subject matter; center instruction on high expectations for student achievement and demonstrate effective teaching practices.
- Demonstrates willingness to upgrade skills and knowledge as curriculum evolves, i.e., including but not limited to learning basic coding for game design.
- Use multiple student data elements to assess student progress, modify instruction and improve student learning.
- Communicates and collaborates with parents and the school community to foster individual student success and growth while engaging the families in the instructional program.
- Exhibits collaborative and collegial practices focused on improving instructional practice and student learning by participating in professional learning communities, showing professionalism, and growing professionally
- Plans, organizes, and teaches a competency-based Business and Information Technology program.
- Manages and advises FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and incorporates FBLA leadership activities into the Business and Information Technology curriculum.
- Develops and maintains program budgets (student fees and FBLA) following district and building guidelines.
- Fosters and manages a safe, positive, and respectful learning environment to promote effective student behavior and success.
- Demonstrates effective classroom and computer lab management.
- Assists in developing and participating in activities designed to promote an innovative Business and Information Technology program.
- Demonstrates a professional commitment to Business and Information Technology innovation.
- Participates in and provides business partners for the CTE Advisory Board.
- Maintains and submits appropriate records (i.e., monthly, semester, annual enrollment, and employment reports).
- Orders supplies, instructional materials, and equipment necessary for the program.
- Maintains consistent attendance and conforms to regular work hours specified under the contract.
- Share with other staff members the responsibility for school activities and student supervision.
- Implements and complies with District policies and procedures.
- Performs appropriate tasks as designated by the principal with the above responsibilities.
- Fosters workplace readiness skills by strategically integrating Virginia’s 5Cs into daily lesson plans.
- Coordinates and oversees WBL experiences
- Performs other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of principles, concepts, and basic career information related to blueprint reading, residential construction, maintenance, and service.
- Knowledge of steps to prepare students for credentials.
- Ability to meet the needs of all learners.
- Ability to use various equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, calculators, and electrical equipment for children, etc.
- Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and/or directions from superiors.
- Ability to manage various correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc., using a prescribed format.
- Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking principles to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and deal with several abstract and concrete abstract variables.
- Ability to manage instructional time.
- Ability to manage student behavior.
- Ability to consult with parents, teachers, and the community to enhance students' learning.
- Ability to monitor student performance.
- Participates in and provides business partners for the CTE Advisory Board.
- Sponsors the local chapter of their respective CTSO (Career & Technical Student Organization); Encourages and assists students in competition preparation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college. Holds or is eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the appropriate subject area. Meet Dual enrollment qualifications. Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs. Skilled in the use of multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning. Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and the community. Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND WORK CONTACTS
Significant standing, walking, moving, carrying, and bending. Handles trades workers' equipment and materials. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
11 months (240 days); 8 hours per day
EVALUATION
Performance evaluation will be conducted annually by the School Principal on the effectiveness by which the employee has carried out the above responsibilities.
