We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Special Education Transporter. This part-time position is based at our Bus Garage and involves safely transporting students with special needs to and from Marquette. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students while providing a supportive and understanding environment during transport.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate a specialized vehicle to transport students with special needs, ensuring compliance with all traffic regulations and safety protocols.
- Assist students in boarding and disembarking the vehicle, providing physical support as needed.
- Monitor and manage student behavior during transport, ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding transportation schedules and any issues that may arise.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform basic maintenance checks to ensure the vehicle is in safe operating condition.
- Complete and submit required documentation, including incident reports and transportation logs.
- Attend training sessions and meetings as required to stay informed about safety procedures and best practices in special education transportation.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; Chauffer's driver’s license required, subject to DOT drug screening
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Patience, empathy, and a caring attitude towards students with diverse needs.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
- Physical ability to assist students with mobility challenges and perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including early mornings and afternoons.
