Job Description
The Automotive / Heavy Technician IV is responsible for assisting with the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Light, Heavy or Fire Shop, testing repairs, assisting with diagnoses of problems, and providing input on performance evaluations.
Essential Duties
- Completes service records for work performed on vehicles
- Performs quality control checks on work performed
- Serves as a liaison between the auto shop and other County departments
- Inputs, retrieves, and reviews vehicle repair information
- Prepares vehicle repair requests for external vendors
- Facilitates forklift training sessions
- Acts in a supervisory capacity during supervisor's absence
Other Job Requirements/Information
- This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
- This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Valid driver's license from state of residency
- ASE Master Tech certification in area of assignment
- Commercial Driver's License
- A/C Recycle Recovery Certificate
Grade
The grade for this position is B31(3). Salary will be dependent on education and experience.
Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D. AND
- Six years of experience maintaining and repairing light and heavy equipment and vehicles OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications
- Supervisory experience
- Six years of experience

The 14 departments that make up the executive side are Police Services, Fire and Emergency Services, Corrections, Communications, Support Services, Financial Services, Community Services, Human Resources, Information Technology Services, Law, Planning and Development, Water Resources, Child Advocacy & Juvenile Services, and Transportation. Each department is run by a director who is charged with managing operations in a manner which stresses the County’s values.
In addition to the executive side of County government, certain services are provided through Constitutional officers and independent elected officials. These external offices are created by the Georgia Constitution or through state law. In Gwinnett, they include the Sheriff, Tax Commissioner, District Attorney, Solicitor, Probate Court Judge, and Chief Magistrate.
