What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fire Plans Examiner II position at Gwinnett County?
The Fire Planner II position is assigned to the Fire Plan Review section within the Building Division. The position advises contractors, government agencies, and citizens with the interpretation of applicable ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations regarding fire codes. This position is responsible for the review and approval of plans, permits, and other associated documents to ensure life safety. In addition, this position may prepare reports and coordinate the hold and release of permits.
Essential Duties
- Serves as a lead to staff to include assigning and monitoring work and providing direction.
- Reviews plans for compliance with fire, life safety, and accessibility.
- Assists and responds to design professionals, contractors, developers, other government agencies, and the public on interpreting ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations.
- Conducts research regarding zoning conditions and administrative questions.
- Enters plan and permit data and coordinates related activities with co-workers.
- Determines appropriate construction permit fees.
- Conducts Fire Site Reviews according to applicable codes
- Conducts Fire Suppression (Hood Systems/Sprinklers) Reviews according to applicable codes
- Conducts Fire Alarm Reviews according to applicable codes
- Familiarity with and ability to navigate through the following codes at a minimum: IFC, NFPA 101, NFPA 13, NFPA 72, Georgia Amendments
- This job is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule after an initial probationary period and individual approval.
The grade for this position is C42(1). Salary will be dependent on education and experience.
Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Technology, or closely related field AND
- One (1) year of plans examiner experience OR
- Three (3) years of plans examiner experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered
- Valid Driver’s License from state of residency
