What are the responsibilities and job description for the Photonics Engineer position at GXC?
GenXComm (GXC) is an Austin, TX based company that developed mesh based end-to-end, private cellular Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) solution to meet the emerging communications needs of Enterprise and Industry 4.0 customers. GenXComm’s technology delivers easy to deploy, fully secure and scalable connectivity using our proprietary, mesh-based technology.
GenXComm is the first company in the world to combine RF and Photonics to solve the problems that are associated with today’s wireless connectivity infrastructure. Our patented technology delivers an interference free, high bandwidth, low latency 5G, Wi-Fi and domain specific wireless networks. This enables the use of the same frequency, at the same time, with up to an order of magnitude higher throughput in the same spectrum.
GenXComm is developing light-enabled technologies that facilitate faster, smaller, more energy efficient components. We are replacing conventional microelectronics with photonics processors to enable an intelligent compute fabric composed of high-speed adaptive mobile networks and small form factor, high precision sensors. We’re looking for innovative thinkers excited to help shape cutting-edge technology at a fast-paced start-up. As a Photonics Engineer, you will be working on these next generation systems with an opportunity to innovate at both the systems level and the component level. This role will include hands-on design, simulation, and testing as well as closely interfacing with fabrication and packaging teams and vendors.
Why you should apply
If you are a skilled scientist or engineer seeking an opportunity at a well-funded startup who takes shipping innovative, world changing products seriously, this is a great job for you. Additionally, this engineering position comes with a competitive salary, depending on experience. We also offer excellent health, vision, and dental insurance as well as stock options and a 401(k) plan.
What you'll be doing
- Design and simulate photonic components and system-level functionality and performance
- Prototype novel photonic components and architectures
- Work closely with the fabrication team and external manufacturing partners for component design, process integration, and performance monitoring.
- Develop component and system-level optical testing plans and optoelectronic testing setups. Perform hands-on photonic component and optical system-level testing.
- Contribute to the expansion of our IP portfolio through patent filing
What we need from you
- Strong understanding of integrated photonics, both passive components such as waveguides, multiplexers/demultiplexers, tapers, couplers and active such as waveguide detectors modulators and lasers.
- Strong understanding of photonic system-level and component-level design concerns.
- Knowledgeable in photonic fabrication. Good understanding of CMOS manufacturing process steps and constraints on the design of photonic devices.
- Proficient with mainstream photonic components and systems simulation packages such as Lumerical and COMSOL.
- Proficient with complex optoelectronic lab testing techniques and equipment, necessary to validate designs, including high speed detectors, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, precision positioning setups.
- Collaborative in a multi-disciplinary startup environment, ability to work both with local and remote team members as well as with our manufacturing partners.
- Capable of coaching and mentoring new or junior engineers.
- Independent, analytical thinker, comfortable in a fast-paced dynamic frontier technology environment.
