Wireline Operator II

Job Function / Purpose

Gyrodata is a privately held oil service company based in Houston, Texas. The Company was founded in 1980 and incorporated in 1983 to adapt advanced, aerospace guidance technology for applications in wellbore surveying for the oil and gas industry, which is our main product line.

Our highly accurate, wellbore positioning and drilling guidance technology is used to assist the operator in better defining the trajectory of the wellbore and certain pieces of equipment in the well and to assist the driller in accurately drilling to a predetermined target. Today, Gyrodata is the leading supplier worldwide of precision wellbore survey services to the energy, mining, environmental and construction industries.

1. Achieve Competence in performing basic wireline services using Gyrodata, Inc. wireline units and supporting downhole survey operations at client jobsites, first under supervision of a more senior Wireline Operator and then without supervision; “Competence” is defined as the ability to successfully perform wireline services without supervision

Essential Duties

1. Achieve Competence in the following tasks:
2. Performing basic wireline services using Gyrodata, Inc. wireline units and supporting downhole survey operations at client jobsites
3. Performing wireline and surveying services required for basic client jobs, including open well jobs
4. Performing routine wireline equipment performance checks, preventative maintenance of related tools, wireline tool assembly, testing and basic troubleshooting
5. Performing basic servicing of well entry gear and assisting with changing wireline on all units
6. Operating wireline units, including conveying gyro and steering tools
7. Checking wireline equipment at client jobsite and assembling tools
8. Performing rig-up procedures and installations at client jobsites
9. Performing safe operation of crane and sling loads
10. Performing pre-job preparation of wireline equipment, wireline units, and surveyor equipment on combined service jobs and ensuring completion of pre-job logistics
11. Applying Gyrodata, Inc. Quality Assurance systems and standards
12. Removing and disassembling tools and equipment in the field
13. Attending to post-job shop responsibilities, including cleaning, servicing, and labeling equipment, post-job office equipment testing, and accurate and timely submission of post-job paperwork and related files
14. Preparing and maintaining documentation for client jobs, including wireline logs and journals, job tickets, daily reporting, end-of-well reports and all applicable administrative paperwork
15. Performing general shop duties for tools and equipment, including picking up deliveries of parts and equipment and washing wireline units
16. Assist more senior Wireline Operators in performance of complex operations at client job sites for any type of entry, including circulating heads, side door sub entry, side entry, modified swivel, high pressure grease control units, pump in sub and pump down equipment
17. Assist more senior Wireline Operators with training Wireline Trainees
18. Assist more senior Wireline Operators with repair and maintenance of wireline units and prepare wireline units for third party inspections
19. Assist more senior Wireline Operators and Survey Specialists in the field as necessary
20. Maintain safe driving records and comply with all Gyrodata, Inc. certifications per local and client requirements
21. Acquire Crane Operator Training if required in area of operation
22. Submit to and comply with all applicable Gyrodata, Inc. and pre-employment screenings and qualifications, including audiograms, physicals and drug testing
23. Comply with all Gyrodata, Inc. and client safety and training requirements and providing corresponding documentation, including Jobsite Awareness forms and site work permits
24. Travel as directed by Operations Coordinator to perform job duties, and remain on job site
25. Represent Gyrodata, Inc. in a positive and professional manner and communicate clearly with client representatives

1. Comply with applicable quality assurance standards and maintain a safe working environment
2. Cooperate with management in promoting, developing and maintaining a safe place of work and safe working practices, meeting all applicable health, safety and environmental requirements
3. Report any work methods, equipment or conditions considered hazardous and submit suggestions to remedy the situation
4. Drive defensively at all times observing posted speeds and traffic signs and adjust driving as needed to meet road conditions
5. Report any accident or incident (including near misses) that could have caused injury, damage or loss of production
6. Be aware of hazards in the field and the shop; wear necessary safety clothing; use appropriate safety equipment; maintain equipment in clean and serviceable conditions; immediately report any faults

Required Qualifications

1. Strong written and oral English communication skills
2. High School Diploma, GED or regional equivalent
3. 1 year minimum experience with wireline and steering tool services
4. Clean motor vehicle record as per local requirement
5. SafeGulf and SafeLand Certifications
6. Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credentials
7. H2S Certification
8. Customer Safety Certifications
9. Defensive Safe Driver Certification
10. Ability to work non-office hours and weekends as necessary
11. Ability to record data and demonstrate good record-keeping skills
12. Ability to perform duties according to on call schedule
13. Ability to use basic hand tools
14. Ability to travel internationally
15. Ability to use a computer for accessing and sending e-mail, opening and revising documents, accessing internet and web-based Gyrodata, Inc. systems, including SharePoint, Agresso and ability to use Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

1. Valid commercial driver’s license
2. Crane certification

Working Conditions                                                                                 

1. The job is performed at the client’s outdoor job site and involves exposure to the elements, including extreme heat and cold, and significant travel. The job requires exposure to safety hazards, such as exposure to heavy machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment, and possible exposure to toxic chemicals. The job requires routine physical exertion, including sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to sixty (60) pounds, carrying, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting and a wide range of physical motion. The job requires operation of tools, machinery, equipment, computers and telephones. The job requires following written and oral instructions, attention to detail, ability to multitask, ability to work with others, ability to meet deadlines, compliance with safety protocols and regular attendance. The job requires attention to emergency and time sensitive tasks, which may include working irregular and prolonged hours. The job requires following established policies and procedures and meeting quality and safety standards.
