Job Summary:
Insurance carrier that provides workers’ compensation coverage. We pride ourselves on having an exceptional team environment, with multiple avenues for growth opportunities. The Underwriter for Workers’ Compensation will evaluate insurance applications, analyze risks, and determine the appropriate coverage and premium for workers’ compensation policies for both new business submissions and renewals. The Underwriter ensures adherence to underwriting guidelines, assess policy renewals, and maintain relationships with agents and clients.
Essential Job Functions
Underwrites and grows a profitable book of business based upon eligibility by review of the HNIC Risk Appetite Guide, loss analysis, exposure analysis, class code, and reinsurance acceptability.
· Reviews Due Diligence reports, Loss control surveys, loss runs, and timeliness of premium payments and takes appropriate action when necessary.
· Collaborates with specialists such as premium auditors, claims adjusters, and loss control engineers for risk assessment.
· Manages and delegates regularly the activities of underwriting assistants including reaction time to compliance issues and requests from internal departments such as claims, loss control, SIU, Policy Issuance, and IT as well as external requests from Agents, Brokers, and Policyholders.
· Presents accounts to management for underwriting approval accompanied by the appropriate underwriting data and recommendations.
· Stays current with rules and regulations, market conditions, and corporate underwriting disciplines utilizing NCCI and State Insurance Department websites.
· Assists the marketing department with presentations, proposals, and visits with Brokers and Policyholders.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

· Ability to develop of a service plan and efficient management of accounts.
· Onsite presence at our office in Spring Valley, NY at least two (2) days per week.
Education And Experience
· Minimum of three (3) years of commercial insurance experience with at least two (2) years of Workers’ Compensation underwriting individual accounts.
· Knowledge of large account rating programs (i.e., Large Deductibles, Retrospective Rating, etc.)
· Certification or coursework in insurance underwriting is an advantage but not required.
