The CT Technologist performs various computed tomography, radiographic and fluoroscopic imaging procedures on patients of various ages. Performs a variety of procedures using radiation generating equipment to produce images for diagnostic purposes. The CT Technologist is responsible for quality assurance as well as radiation safety and other safety protocols.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs CT examinations according to established protocols in a timely manner.
- Performs radiography and fluoroscopy examinations according to established protocols in a timely manner. This includes radiology procedures in the Operating Room.
- Follows the Radiology Department procedures and protocols.
- Proficiently operates CT equipment and contrast injector.
- Safely prepares and administers contrast material.
- Assesses laboratory values (Bun, Creatine, etc.) and obtains thorough patient history pertaining to the administration of contrast material.
- Ensures all consent forms are completed.
- Monitors the patient for any contrast reaction.
- Correctly identifies patient.
- Correlates patient’s medical history and clinical status with imaging examination ordered.
- Obtains pertinent patient clinical history and documents in Electronic Medical Record and /or RIS system.
- Establishes patient rapport, and explains examination.
- Ensures patient comfort and safety before, during and after the examination .
- Correctly adjusts exposure techniques based on patient's size, age and disease process.
- Analyzes images and information for quality with the ability to identify where and how improvements can be made. Retakes suboptimal images as necessary.
- Practices ALARA principles
- Provides instruction and mentoring to new hires and students.
- Documents and clearly communicates equipment problems co-workers, Image Management Specialist, Director and others as necessary.
- Maintains competency in CT and Radiologic Procedures.
- Adheres to the Imaging Department’s Quality Assurance protocols and documents all quality control activities, equipment and procedural calibrations.
- Participates in Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Completes designated shift duties and hand off communication reports.
- Follows HIPAA Guidelines
- Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospital’s corporate compliance policies. Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.
- Other duties as requested or assigned.
