**This position will be an 8-12 week assignment**
Prepares all ingredients necessary for food production as well as short order grill cooking while providing exceptional customer service for all patients and guests to the Café and Conference Center. Washes dishes, pots, pans and trays used within the hospital. Maintains kitchen work areas, equipment and utensils in a clean and orderly condition.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Cut, slice, chop, dice, assemble sandwiches, preparing sides and desserts for patient meals, etc for all entrée specials, soups, special function foods, and items for the cook and deli stations
• Answering telephones, taking orders at counter, preparing sandwich orders
• Baking pies, cakes, etc; cutting, platting, decorating items to fill customer orders and our dessert case
• Consistently prepares and/or serves quality food items for patients, café patrons, and special functions following Ohio Department of Health Uniform Food Code and HACCP guidelines.
• Accurately measures and mixes ingredients according to standardized recipes to prepare salads and desserts, vegetables and side dishes as applicable.
• Accurately forecasts preparation amounts by reading menus and reviewing waste tracking records looking towards reducing waste.
• Accurately and efficiently fills and delivers department food requisitions.
• Effectively checks refrigerated units, disposes of outdated food items, and completes log sheet to aid in maintaining quality throughout the department.
• Effectively and cooperatively works with cooks and other food prep employees as well as dining room employees to serve all patients, patrons to the Café and visitors to the Conference Center.
• Monitors foods being prepared by taste and smell to insure quality of product.

• Monitoring and recording temperatures of food as well as cooling and freezing equipment
• Observes and tests foods being cooked by tasting, smelling, piercing with a fork and inserting thermometer to determine that it is cooked, and acceptable for safe and desirable consumption.
• Supervises Food Service employees in the absence of the Food Service Director and Food Service Coordinator.
• Politely takes orders from customers and cooks food requiring short preparation time. Portions foods on serving plate, adds gravies and sauces and garnishes servings to fill orders
• Operates deli counter, order taker, and main entrée areas of café in an efficient, pleasant, and customer-focused manner.
• As assigned, accurately takes and records inventory amounts for food items in the coolers, freezers, and/or dry stock areas.
• Willingly cross-trains to other Food Service positions
• Scrapes, rinses, scrubs, loads, unloads, stacks dishes, washes dishes and pots and pans by hand.
• Sweep and mop dish and pan rooms as needed but at least daily; de-lime dish machine weekly, clean work area daily; complete 2 in-depth cleaning tasks each week.
• Gathering all items needed for special functions (dishes, utensil, glassware, condiments, etc); setting the room up and/or breaking the room down from special functions; putting away pots, pans, dishes.
• Dishwashing duties listed above are considered essential functions of the job for all new hire Food Preps.
• Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions; ensures compliance with Joint Commission and other external and internal regulatory agencies.
• Maintains the integrity of confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policy, including accessing, using and disclosing patient information relevant to the individual employee’s job duties. Also maintains confidentiality of other customer and hospital business affairs.
• Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospital’s corporate compliance policies and seeks guidance and training when necessary to resolve questions about the policies. Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.
• Reports to work on time and as scheduled; Shows respect for co-workers by following established break times; Keeps personal conversations and telephone calls to a minimum.
• Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
