Assist staff under the supervision and guidance of the RN to ensure optimal patient care by providing and maintaining a safe, clean and attractive environment for patients. Assisting staff to provide basic patient care tasks. Work as a team member and collaborate with other team members to assure safe, courteous and efficient patient care. Function as clerical assistant to department and coordinate activities of the nursing station.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with patient care under the supervision and guidance of RN
- Assists with vital signs, documents in EMR, and reports to primary nurse or provider.
- Assists with putting patients on cardiac monitors.
- Assists providers with minor procedures.
- Demonstrates competency for the following tasks:
- EKG’s
- IV placement for ED techs per scope of practice with EMT or Paramedic license per State of Ohio
- Performs venipunctures, heel sticks, finger sticks, and other specimen collection procedures
- Trained and proficient in the use of Magruder Hospital electronic medical records system.
- Functions as communication focus during emergency situations, stat requests, and orders.
- Places call to ancillary departments, physicians, other institutions as directed by nursing personnel or physician.
- Assists other staff when possible. Floats to other areas as assigned; responds to floating requests with a positive attitude.
- Provide safe, efficient, courteous initial assessment and intervention of the clients upon presentation to the Emergency Department.
- Regulates the flow of clients in the Emergency Department.
- Follows hospital policy and procedure.
- Communicates all pertinent patient care information and general environmental information to the charge nurse, unit director, or other unit staff.
- Attends educational meetings, completes annual competencies and online training as required
- Attends staff meetings
- Assists in peer interviewing as needed
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions; ensures compliance with Joint Commission and other external and internal regulatory agencies.
- Maintains the integrity of confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policy, including accessing, using and disclosing patient information relevant to the individual employee’s job duties. Also maintains confidentiality of other customer and hospital business affairs.
- Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospital’s corporate compliance policies and seeks guidance and training when necessary to resolve questions about the policies. Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.
