Summary
Position Highlights:
- The Research Assistant II assumes the responsibility for assisting research personnel in projects related to the PI's research portfolio. This position could be in a dry lab or wet lab, depending on the PI's research interests.
- The primary purpose is to support more senior research staff, such as a Research Coordinator, and/or faculty.
- In the dry lab, this could include, but is not limited to: performing interviews with participants, prepping materials for the research project and other general research support for the research team. This differs from a Research Assistant I since this requires a slightly higher level of independence, maturity and less supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare data collected from patients for computer entry.
- Perform face-to-face interviews, administer measures and questionnaires in person, via mail and via telephone and conduct other research-related procedures with participants.
- Maintain records related to the conduct of research. This duty requires photocopying forms, establishing a system for filing paper records and preparing reports for various monitoring agencies.
- Provides data entry as needed.
- Prepares materials for studies, such as preparing study folders, consent forms, and questionnaires.
- Provides chart abstraction to gain information about participants. For example, finding dates of death, diagnosis, pathology, etc.
- Provides follow-up to participants in person or over the phone.
- Assisting with basic biospecimens needs (i.e. creation of kits, freezer maintenance, pulling samples, labeling samples).
- Attend research meetings to monitor and discuss ongoing research activities.
- Recruits research participants in minimal risk studies with supervision as a backup to a Research Coordinator. This would be a small percentage of the time, and is not a primary responsibility of this position. This position is supervised and recruitment should be limited.
Credentials and Qualifications:
- One year of relevant experience required with two years equivalent of undergraduate coursework OR no experience with a Bachelor’s degree.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. In the wet lab, knowledge of sterile techniques is required.
