Elevate your career and make a significant impact by joining our Hardware Engineering team as a Mechanical Engineer II. In this role, you will assist with the design and development of components for our innovative microwave plasma pyrolysis system and supporting equipment, driving our commitment to sustainability and technological excellence.
 

Expected Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Own the Design Process: Lead the design, fabrication, assembly, and testing of microwave plasma system components, ensuring compliance with company and client standards.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Establish and refine design principles, best practices, and development methodologies that push the boundaries of quality and innovation.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with our small, multi-disciplinary team to define and prioritize requirements, delivering impactful solutions.
  • Ensure Manufacturability & Serviceability: Oversee requirements-driven mechanical component design, with a keen eye on ease of manufacturing and maintenance.
  • Source & Integrate Components: Select and integrate mechanical and electromechanical parts, leveraging deep technical expertise.
  • Create CAD Models & Drawings: Use CAD tools to produce complex 3D designs and 2D drawings with GD&T notation, maintaining top-notch documentation.
  • Lead Design Reviews: Organize and guide reviews focused on quality, functionality, manufacturability, and serviceability.
  • Hands-On Testing & Troubleshooting: Take the lead on system testing (including plasma tests), diagnose and resolve mechanical issues, and contribute to thorough documentation.

Experience Requirements: 
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design, including experience leading and executing complex projects.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, with expertise in Onshape or similar CAD software, for advanced 3D modeling and comprehensive design documentation.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing requirements-driven hardware design, with a deep understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences and provide mentorship to junior team members.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a demonstrated history of successfully resolving intricate mechanical challenges.
  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to solve complex multidisciplinary challenges with creative design solutions. 
  • Firm understanding of design for manufacturing principles and ability to develop manufacturing work instructions for complex assemblies. 
  • Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring precision in all aspects of the design process.
  • Demonstrated adaptability in the face of rapidly changing project requirements and challenges.
  • This role is 100% onsite and requires the employee to be in the office Monday through Friday.
 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior startup experience.
  • Previous work in a laboratory environment.
  • Appetite for a fast-paced, early-stage, “get your hands dirty” startup environment.
  • Effective time management skills and demonstration of a high sense of urgency.
  • Previous experience taking a prototype to commercialization.
  • Familiarity with the implementation and adherence to industry standards such as ISO, ANSI, and NFPA Guidelines.
