We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing high-quality care for our animal patients. You will work closely with veterinarians and other staff to ensure the health and well-being of animals in our care. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal handling, veterinary terminology, and a passion for pet care.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures.
- Perform routine laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging.
- Provide support in kennel management and ensure a clean, safe environment for all animals.
- Educate pet owners on proper pet care, nutrition, and preventive health measures.
- Handle animals with care and compassion, ensuring their comfort throughout their visit.
- Inventory control
- Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, drugs, and vaccines, and bandaging and wrapping wounds.
- Able to perform moderately physically demanding work, that requires a lot of lifting (up to 50 pounds), cleaning, and constant motion or standing for extended periods of time.
- Maintain and complete required yearly CE.
- Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
- Support patient examinations and operations by assembling required supplies and instruments, securing, and bringing patients to examination rooms, and restraining patients.
- Fill prescriptions and administer medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs.
- Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by following documented standards and procedures in compliance with applicable legal regulations.
- Maintain medical records by documenting patients’ conditions, reactions, and changes, updates database in an accurate and timely manner.
- Ability to demonstrate and follow correct procedures in catheter placement, phlebotomy, surgery, and digital radiology.
Veterinary Technician Requirements and Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology, animal science, or a related field from an accredited program strong preferred
- 1 years of veterinary experience in a Veterinary Hospital Setting
- Anesthesia monitoring and management skills strongly desired
- Working knowledge of standard industry tools and equipment
- Solid understanding of animal behavior and healthcare
- Able to restrain larger pets when necessary
- Flexible schedule
- Ability to apply critical thinking skills in challenging situations
- Ability to adapt to and apply new protocols and standards of procedures
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with pet owners and team members.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
