This position is responsible for operating a variety of heavy road maintenance and construction equipment.

• Operates a variety of heavy equipment to facilitate department work processes safely and efficiently.

- Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure that it is in proper operating condition; checks brakes, mirrors, lights,
wipers, belts, hoses, air pressure, fluid levels, etc.
- Cleans, services, and makes minor repairs to equipment.
- Performs equipment maintenance duties such as lubricating, greasing, and checking air, oil, gas, and other
fluids.
- Loads dump trucks and hauls sand, dirt, clay, asphalt, and other materials to work sites.
- Flags for traffic and work sites.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
- Locates utilities.
- Clears debris from roads and rights-of-way.
- Hauls equipment and materials to and from work sites.
- Mows county rights-of-way.
- Cut trees; removes and chips storm debris.
- Patches holes using asphalt or cold patch.
- Cleans culvers and storm drains.
- Assists with snow removal operations.
- Installs driveway pipes.
- Grades county roads.
- Seals cracks in asphalt.
- Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
- One to three years of experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be
able to answer questions and resolve problems.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class A CDL issued by the State of Georgia.
- Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience which provides the requisite
knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
The successful candidate must pass a Background/Reference Check, and Pre-Employment Drug Screenings prior
to the start of employment.
