What are the responsibilities and job description for the Road Supervisor (FT) position at Habersham County Board of Commissioners?
This position is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing road construction and
maintenance activities.
Major Duties:
- Schedules, assigns, and monitors the work of assigned personnel.
- Supervises and instructs employees on work methods, procedures and standards related to
- Plans employees’ work schedules and approves vacation and leave requests.
- Ensures that road construction and maintenance work meet state specifications.
- Supervises the grading of county roads and parking lots.
- Oversees the patching of existing paved roads.
- Makes on-site inspections of work in progress.
- Oversees county right-of-way program.
- Patrols roads to detect necessary repairs and improvements, including assuring that road signs
- Receives phone calls from the general public and provides information.
- Assists the Mechanic with determining the causes of problems involved in machinery
- Coordinates and tracks vehicle and equipment maintenance with Fleet Department personnel.
- Monitors, tracks, and reports vehicle and equipment health and utilization to supervision.
- Assists in developing the proposed annual departmental operating budget, monitors
- Assists in the development of specifications for road construction and maintenance jobs.
- Assists the Public Works Director in planning and scheduling construction projects.
- Seeks bids for road construction and maintenance jobs from outside contractors.
- Responds to citizen complaints.
- Cross-trains employees to ensure they can perform all departmental activities, safely.
- Must be available to assist on-call personnel.
- Operates heavy equipment as needed.
- Supervises and inspects annual LMIG projects.
- Maintain and update inventory of all County-owned roads, signage, safety features and

Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized
training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school
education.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the
division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.
