Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with drafting and reviewing contracts, legal documents, and agreements related to real estate transactions, land acquisitions, and homeownership programs.
- Support the Executive Director in maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal housing laws.
- Coordinate with external legal counsel and handle communications on legal matters, including permits and zoning requirements.
- Manage documentation for property transfers, including title searches, mortgages, and closings.
- Research legal topics relevant to Habitat for Humanity’s work, including housing law and nonprofit compliance.
- Maintain organized records of legal proceedings, documents, and case files.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure legal aspects of projects are on track and deadlines are met.
- Support Operations through data collection/data analysis, proposal preparation, and documentation submission to Regulatory Agencies.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Paralegal certification or equivalent legal experience.
- Experience in real estate law, contract law, or nonprofit legal issues is highly preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in legal research and document preparation.
- Familiarity with nonprofit and affordable housing sectors is a plus.
- Notary public certification is preferred, or willingness to become a notary.
Requirements:
- This position requires regularly working in an office setting, working at a computer, using telephone and other office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
- This position requires the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
- Typical workdays are Monday – Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
- Background check including CORI/SORI will be required of finalist.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
