POSITION TITLE: Family Service Specialist
REPORTS TO: Director of Family Services
CLASSIFICATION: Full Time
HOURS: Typically Monday – Friday but some evenings and weekend hours required
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Family Services Specialist (FSS), under the guidance of the Family Services Director (FSD), assists with Partner Family services, including Partner Family selection, education, financial counseling, monthly meetings, mortgage origination, ongoing Partner Family support, mortgage servicing and other administrative tasks as needed.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES:
- Participates in public speaking events for development and community engagement.
- Maintains records and statistics on potential Partner Families.
- Collects required data and evaluates for compliance with program qualification criteria
- Assists, as needed, with required Partner Family education programming.
- Assists with tracking housing allowances, sweat equity hours and other required information.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all program eligibility criteria.
- Exhibit multicultural sensitivity in order to maintain positive communication and relationships.
- Conduct final home walk-through inspections as assigned.
- Attend mortgage closings for Partner Families as assigned.
- Attend all benchmark events for Partner Families.
- Serve as a liaison and advocate for Partner Families regarding warranty issues, marketing/ development needs, and other needs in conjunction with community partners through effective communication.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with local organizations and community partners.
- Affirm and demonstrate a passion and commitment to the vision, mission, and values of Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County.
- Other duties within this scope, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is based out of the affiliate office with time regularly spent in community meetings at various community locations or in virtual environments.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- 3 years’ experience working with the public and individuals in a community or home-based setting. Preference given to experience working with low-income families.
- Relevant college degree in Humanities or related field with relevant experience.
- Must maintain or achieve Qualified Loan Originator (QLO) certification within 6 months.
- Demonstrated experience in organizing data
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency in the use of standard computer software (Word, Excel, Power Point, database management, Zoom…etc.)
- Demonstrated efficiency in interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work across departments and roles within an organization.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM JOB:
- Personal vehicle & valid driver’s license.
- Proof of automobile insurance.
- Successfully pass Drug Test and Criminal Background check.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on occasion.
- Ability to physically navigate unstable, rough terrain, such as might be found at a construction site.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
