What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Laborer position at Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns?
Reports to: Construction Supervisor
Description: This position assists Construction Supervisor in all aspects of residential and commercial construction activity including new construction, rehabilitation, and home repairs.
Responsibilities:
Construction
- Performs all hands-on construction tasks as directed by the Construction Supervisor.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools, including drills, forklifts, skid loaders and other tools as directed by management.
- Clean and prepare construction sites as needed, including erecting scaffolding, removing and properly disposing of debris and waste materials, and digging trenches.
- Shovel materials to and from construction areas, including asphalt and dirt.
- Follow all safety procedures on the job site and report violations immediately to management.
- Maintain a safe and clean job site by handling materials and storing them properly, picking up and removing all tools and equipment when not in use, and securing the job site on a daily basis.
- Load and unload construction supplies from trucks both manually and with the use of equipment.
- Report incidents immediately to the safety director, foreman or HR in accordance with incident reporting procedures established by the company.
- Assists in site preparation and layout.
- Assists in training volunteers and partner families about construction tasks and appropriate safety measures.
- Responsible for all aspects of construction, including dirtwork, concrete, framing, and finish work.
Volunteers and Partner Families
- Works alongside volunteers of all levels of experience and ability under the supervision of the Construction Supervisor.
- Treats Partner Families and volunteers with respect and dignity. Strives to make their construction involvement meaningful.
- Understands elements that contribute to successful volunteers and helps ensure that volunteers have a consistently positive, encouraging environment thus motivating them to return.
Other Duties as Assigned by the Construction Supervisor
Required Skills / Experience / Physical Requirements
- Knowledge and experience in the construction/contracting business especially as a carpenter/framer
- Team building skills.
- Must be a good listener and be able to engage in well-considered discussions.
- Must be willing to understand the big picture of the HFHEB mission and represent HFHEB positively in the community.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds. Work will require climbing ladders, considerable standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching in awkward and tiring positions.
- Must pass Criminal Background Check.
