Construction Site Manager

Job Overview

The Construction Site Manager should have basic knowledge of general contracting and be able to assess, meet, and follow through on the administrative and physical aspects of home construction and renovation. Work is supervised by the Construction Committee, with projects being assigned by the Executive Director of the affiliate. Given the nature of non-profit work, the employee must have a passion for public sector service and community engagement. The Construction Site Manager is the onsite staff person responsible for volunteer labor

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Construction

• Complete all training of Habitat for Humanity and Harrisburg Habitat standards.

• Performs all hands-on construction tasks.

• Forecast materials needed for multiple construction site locations utilizing project management software or tracking system

• Develop labor and project scheduling in order to minimize time spent on any one project

• Conduct site assessments in order to determine the affiliate’s ability to undertake a proposed construction, renovation or critical home repair project.

• Assist on critical home repair sites as needed.

• Ensure all necessary paperwork is collected from subcontractors, homeowners, etc

• Work closely with the Project Coordinator to ensure materials and service needs are provided in a timely manner to the job site(s). This may include repairing previous work completed that is below the affiliate’s standards.

• Complete construction in accordance with Harrisburg Habitat plans and quality requirements while providing leadership to paid and unpaid workers.

• Maintain construction equipment and vehicles, assuring that they are kept clean and in working condition – repairing or removing equipment from the site that does not meet safe working conditions or that is in need of service.

• Evaluate and implement good safety practices, consistently stressing safety to both paid and unpaid workers.

• Monitor day-to-day, site safety and ensure that the requirements of OSHA are enforced.

• Act as a liaison between construction and administrative staff.

• Communicate with Executive Director to document expenses, problems, disputes as necessary.

• Ability to communicate both with private contractors, public officials, the local community, and counterparts alike.

• Attend Construction meetings as required.

Volunteer Management

• Trains and directs on-site construction volunteers.

• Engages future homeowners with respect and dignity, striving to make their construction involvement meaningful.

• Understands elements that contribute to successful volunteers and helps ensure that volunteers have a consistently good experience thus motivating them to return.

• Evaluates and implements good safety practices and constantly stresses same with volunteers.

• Ensures that communications to volunteers are accurate and timely. * Ensures that all volunteers sign-in.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• Considerable knowledge and experience in the construction/contracting business. * Ability and patience to teach construction skills to unskilled laborers.

• Some Saturday work required.

Personal Attributes:

• Compassionate approach to leadership in keeping with the Habitat ministry.

• Must be a good listener and be able to engage in discussions, while also balancing the work that needs to be accomplished.

• Must have good anticipatory abilities and personally act on same as needs arise.

• Must be willing to understand the big picture of the Habitat Ministry and know that construction is only a part of the larger goal.

• Other duties as assigned

Machines, Equipment, and Specialized Tools Appropriate to Function Include:

Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; strong construction knowledge and skills; and excellent interpersonal skills.

Benefits:

• Full time exempt position working 40 hours per week. Construction site operates Monday through Friday to accommodate construction volunteers.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
