Store Volunteer Coordinator

Department: Volunteer Management

Reports to: Store Manager

Time Commitment: Full-time; non-exempt

Level: C

Who You Are:

You are a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator specializing in managing volunteer programs, engagement, and outreach for one of Habitat for Humanity's local ReStores. Your role involves collaborating closely with the Store Manager for daily operations and with the Volunteer Programs Team for program development and staff growth. Together, you work to ensure the successful implementation of volunteer initiatives and achieve programmatic goals.

You’ll be responsible for:

Volunteer Administration – 50%

  • Manage volunteer profiles and review volunteer applications in Get Connected.
  • Coordinate and participate in volunteer outreach efforts, including neighborhood networking and tabling events as needed.
  • Audit volunteer hours, coordinate onboarding, and maintain an accurate database.
  • Manage in-store volunteer recognition budget, under the supervision of the Store Manager.
  • Solicit volunteer content for the Volunteer Program Team to be included in monthly newsletters (both affiliate and ReStore); prepare volunteer spotlights for social media.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of volunteer supplies and incentives.
  • Facilitate in-store staff training on volunteer best practices and using the Get Connected platform.


Volunteer Engagement within Store – 50%

  • Focus on volunteer engagement, satisfaction, and involvement in the mission and goals of the ReStores.
  • Manage daily volunteer schedule to ensure appropriate staffing.
  • Engage, lead, and work alongside individual volunteers and volunteer groups.
  • Evaluate and coach volunteers’ performance, providing constructive feedback and ensuring volunteer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate volunteer appreciation and recognition events and incentives with store management.


Store Support – as needed

  • Under the direction of the Store Manager, support store staff when needed (opening or closing the store, covering breaks, back-up cashier, etc.)


To be successful in this role, you will possess**:

  • Experience in volunteer coordination or management.
  • Ability to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the volunteer perspective and best practices in volunteer administration.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in group facilitation while creating a positive and inclusive environment for diverse groups of people.
  • The ability to multi-task and complete projects with frequent interruptions.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively with staff.
  • The ability to lead with integrity, honesty, and knowledge that promotes the culture and values of Habitat for Humanity Portland Region.
  • Any combination of formal education, paid work experience, unpaid/volunteer experience, and life experience will be considered.

  • Any qualifying combination of education, certification, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Your work environment and physical demands:

  • You will spend your workday in an open warehouse and retail environment.
  • Assisting customers and handling donations is very active and requires consistent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
  • This means you will frequently lift, move, and/or load items over 50 pounds with mechanical or co-worker assistance.


Your Work Schedule:

  • 40 hours a week, Tuesday – Saturday. Potentially including Saturday and Sunday as required by your manager.
  • Current store hours: Wednesday – Monday 10am-6pm, Tuesday 11 am – 6 pm.


Your Compensation:

We aim to offer equitable pay and benefits and are committed to transparency in compensation. Basing compensation on a candidate’s willingness and/or ability to negotiate leads to inequities and bias in how employees are compensated.

We determine the best possible compensation offer based on base qualifications, relevant experience, internal equity, and the candidate’s competencies for the role demonstrated during the hiring process. Successful candidates are typically hired within the first half of the Pay Range and receive scheduled incremental increases. When starting in this position, your compensation will generally be between $20.84/hour to wage range midpoint of $25.40/hour. The full range for this position is $20.84/hour to $30.22/hour.
